I like that AZ jersey! Sharp....if there was a player worth putting on back.

In regards to Provolov, it doesn't raise my pulse. I don't like a company bulldozing their ideas onto me if I agree or not. Those are my personal things that no company or nobody needs to know and I think they should be left there.

There is a very funny Bill Maher clip that statistically shows the % of gays with each generation and in like 50 years there will be no more humans reproducing or something along those lines because a majority will 'identify' as gay. Who knows what the 'truth' is but I think everyone is equal, yet different if that makes sense. And I am not going to be forced to do something that I am not on board with nor would I consider that for any of my peers. If a person isn't comfortable with it then why persecute them or cancel them? That is kind of like full circle persecution.

And just an FYI my 2 best friends are gay and we openly discuss these things. It is something of concern to them as well.

Actively not wearing something that's part of a team branding and messaging move is sending a definitive message of opposition.

If someone refused to wear a Latino heritage practice jersey or an Autism awareness practice jersey or a veterans' support practice jersey, don't you think that that would likewise raise some pretty significant eyebrows?
Answer to question is yes it would or at least it should because of this hysteria.

You didn't understand my point, that is why other side of the coin is more valuable than other?

Because these things are just nice gestures that get forgotten immediately because everyone does it. Specifically signaling out your opposition to a thoroughly benign cause shows an inherently level of being a jackass by the individual doing it that draws far more attention than the initial kind gesture.

If it pisses enough people off that Comcast cares about, Comcast is going to care. Provorov is well within his rights to say or do as he wishes. His actions and beliefs having consequences goes hand in hand with that.

If he didn't think he was going to catch a ton of heat for this, he's naive at best.

To believe there's reasoning for not wearing that jersey other than he considers homosexuals as lesser people, is really f***ing naive. Especially given the country he's from, and their recent history of treatment of homosexuals there. While he will hide behind "religious beliefs", it's bullshit.

"You better wear this or you're a monster" is hardly the same thing as supporting the LGTBQ community. You can think they deserve love and respect, treat them accordingly when you encounter them out in the world, and not be a hateful bigot while also not want to be forced to wear something.
You could believe that he doesn't have to wear anything (and he, in fact, wasn't forced to wear anything!), but to say that not wearing it DOESN'T make him a hateful bigot is just not true.

If you can't support the LGBTQ community in the most white-washed, least offensive, most acceptable to the most amount of people way, then what is he saying? You dodged my "what political statement is he making" question because he is clearly saying he doesn't support gay people. How does not supporting gay people not make you a homophobe? Would not supporting women make you sexist? Would not supporting Jewish people make you anti-Semitic?

Listen, you can say that what you think he did is fine and that it's okay to not support gay people. Many people would agree with you! But don't try and act like he's actually fine with gay people when he clearly isn't and feign outrage about like dress codes or whatever. He made his statement (that he doesn't support gay people) and you aren't offended by that. Call it what it is.

The only streaming services I’m subscribed to are YouTube Premium and ESPN+ I also haven’t had cable in a few years so I watch a ton of NHL games on there. It’s probably the only “television” I watch these days. That being said, I cannot bare this goddamn burger commercial any longer.

As the gay of the board (or one of them? Idk if anyone else here is), I could not find the energy to be outraged over Provorov because it's so incredibly unsurprising. "Oh, a conservative hockey player with outdated beliefs? COLOUR ME SHOCKED!" It definitely sends a message, and it's a shitty one. And I'm glad I'm not a Flyers fan, because I would know that one of my players doesn't support me enough that he chose not to wear a stupid warm up jersey that had rainbow numbers which he could have just explained as being mandatory if people questioned him about it.

What upsets me MORE than what Provorov did are the comments about it. "He should be able to have his beliefs!" and "Keep it out of the sport!" blah blah blah blah blah. Because Provorov is just one guy. But there are thousands of people out there talking about it who are showing their whole selves as being bigoted and thinking they aren't by saying "I dont care if you're gay or not. BUT . . ."
And he IS allowed to have his "beliefs", but the people spouting this shit are so f***ing hypocritical that there is no sort of logic that will ever get them to see that their head is so far up their own ass. These are the same people that were exploding with rage over players kneeling for an anthem. Where's the dialogue of freedom of expression there?!

It sends the message of "I don't care what you do, but you can't be yourself in public because I'm uncomfortable with it and not secure enough in my own heterosexuality to be able to see you as just another person".

Sigh. I'm so tired.
