Whoa, Robin Lehner is really behind the 8 ball financially:

FTA

“Lehner's debts also included missed payments for a collection of rare snakes he purchased for $1.2 million in 2017, according to the bankruptcy filing. Lehner keeps the snakes at his reptile farm in Plato, Missouri.”

I used to live in Vancouver for many years and was at a Canuck practice once to get a shot of Pavel Bure for a local mag and Gino being Gino spotted me as being a new face at the rink and skated up to the bench with a big smile and as i waited in expectation of a hello or something instead got a big squirt from his water bottle followed by a hearty chuckle! A heart of gold! RIP Gino!

So Provarov decided not to wear an LGBT jersey during the warm up skate so he wasn’t allowed on the ice. Now there‘s a major controversy and the main boards are already a mess.

All because the NHL wantEd to make a few extra bucks lol.

Players shouldn’t be forced to either wear political statements or be demonized if they don’t. I’m sure my worst thoughts about Provorov are true but I don’t like him being ratted out just because he disagrees.

That isn’t healthy discourse. That’s “do this or f*** you”

He's going to collect every dollar owed to him on his contract. If you want to make millions being a professional athlete part of that is being a public figure and not making yourself radioactive.

It’s just a shame that showing support for a marginalized group has to be political statement.

Exactly what “political statement” is being made by participating in a corporate pride event?

Wearing a jersey to support LGBTQ isn't really a political statement, it's a human statement. Sexual preference doesn't make you less human, and showing support for a community who has been treated like they're less than human for decades, shouldn't be that tough.

The Russians are actually pretty well-known for being very much against LGBTQ, I believe. So this isn't really that shocking to me.

Yes, that's what it's about. the NHL making a few bucks.

"You better wear this or you're a monster" is hardly the same thing as supporting the LGTBQ community. You can think they deserve love and respect, treat them accordingly when you encounter them out in the world, and not be a hateful bigot while also not want to be forced to wear something.

I don't like the forcefulness of this. I get that in Russia they still have backwards views on this sort of thing and especially if Provorov is an Orthodox Christian i'm most positive he does not believe the things we believe here. I understand the league has had issues supporting homosexual players and that a locker room full of hockey bros is not a mecca for inclusion and intelligent discourse.

Regardless i don't see why things like this should be anything more than an optional sign of support as opposed to strongly suggesting that every single team member wears it or else you're a homophobe/transphobe. I wouldn't want to be forced to wear anything either.

He does not think this, you're giving him way too much credit.

He IS a hateful bigot.

Charity and awareness warm-up sweaters are a dime a dozen and every team wears mutliple of them. This isn't an undo burden on anyone or making a profound political statement, it's just a nice gesture to LGBTQ+ fans.

Being upset about that and refusing to wear one sends far more of a message than just skating in warm-ups with one on as if they're any other thing.

This is something I never understand. If wearing it is not a big thing then why not wearing it is?

Actively not wearing something that's part of a team branding and messaging move is sending a definitive message of opposition.

If someone refused to wear a Latino heritage practice jersey or an Autism awareness practice jersey or a veterans' support practice jersey, don't you think that that would likewise raise some pretty significant eyebrows?
