Is that a good deal for the Leafs? It seems destined to be another patchwork where they say it's not harmful. But it's harmful because it stops them from actually patching their wholes for a real better top 4 solution

It's a great contract. Whether or not they properly build a team around it is immaterial.

But it's not. That's not a contact in a vacuum, it's them thinking this is an answer, just like the great contracts of Spezza, Thornton, Simmons, etc.

Nobody wins this way. Why do they keep thinking this is going to work?

It will be okay if he actually falls off a cliff soon enough they add at next year's deadline still or actually do play their Sandin or Liligren types next year.

Spezza has been pretty good the last few years and almost every team has some shit fourth liners.

He worked for them and the contract is dirt cheap. I’m all for looking for excuses to laugh at the Leafs, but this is a solid, very team-friendly deal for them.

Panthers have looked like **** far more than the Lightning looking good. Against the Caps they didn't look great either but Verhaeghe was a monster. Their best players just seem to be turtling under pressure.
