Didn't realize it but he played 18 years for them

Time certainly flies

That 2003 draft class turned out to be pretty damn great

The longevity angle and captaining their Cup teams would be the only arguments.

In hindsight, I kinda get it based upon those things.

I still think it's a little wild to give him a statue, but whatever.

I find statues for athletes in general kind of silly, and usually really poorly made/looking.

When Toews/Kane get theirs eventually I doubt I’d even bother to go out of my way to look at it.

Still find it funny Brown is getting one, though. You’d think stuff like that would be reserved for franchise all time greats.

The statue isn’t for you, you already got to see them play. It’s for Hawks fans in the future who never got to see them play. It lets them know there was great history here and that Toews, Kane, and Kieth a huge part of it.

Fair point. Never considered that angle of it.

Still never wanted to see our prized drunken racist wife beater statue either, though.

A picture or Jersey retirement isn’t enough? It just rubs me the wrong way to idolize people in that regard.

Sports statues are dumb. If it’s Michael Jordan or Gretzky then whatever, but that’s it.

Sure. The dumb train pulled out of the station long ago. But worshipping pro-athletes takes it to a level of dumbness of which I happily abstain.
It's a statue not a religion. You know I don't blindly support anybody because they're good at hockey.

Just an odd line in the sand for me. I don't really care about jersey retirements or statues. Either way.

Jerseys are a means to honor. Statues are deification. The distinction may be in the eye of the beholder, but at a certain point the line into absurdity is crossed. Abe Lincoln deserves statues. Jonas Salk. Michael Faraday. Newton. MLK. Patrick Kane?

It’s not something I’m passionate about either, just calling it as I see it.
