Imagine the uproar here if he flourishes in Van. Gonna be mighty entertaining!
Not at all. That would be the change of scenery Beuvillier needed. He was in his 7th season on the Island and he was maddeningly inconsistent. You can't wait forever for a player to do what you projected him to do 4 years ago while the rest of the team around him is also struggling. Something had to give.

I'm in total agreement. There are those who point to his playoff success, speed, puck carrying ability and youth

I was conjecturing as to how the contrarians among us might react if Beau starts off strong. Just thinking there might be the "See, I knew we should have kept him" crew

Oh, there’s plenty of folks in this fanbase that will spend more time watching Beau’s stat line and Raty’s development vs. the premier acquired player on the ice for the isles.

I’ve never thought of Horvat as a premiere player. Always viewed him as a better Palmieri but at center. A guy with more finish than most of our roster. Bo’s on a burner this season and that cannot be looked down our noses at. Maybe his work with Adam Oates is going to carry him through his next part of his career and that is definitely worth the risk Lou took.

He’s a premium player. Not elite, but a premium player. He’s benefiting from the more open nhl too.

I’m not expecting the guy to put up 40G annually.

Apparently he also worked with some speed skating coach as well as Oates. If nothing else, it shows me that the guy is in tune with his weaknesses and works his ass off to get better. Maybe that can rub off on some here with a weakness or two that can use improvement

There’s a little more clarity regarding Robin Lehner and his financial difficulties.

The major sports leagues will regret the pact they made with the devil to allow professional gambling. On second thought, they probably won’t give a shit because they’re making money off it. The integrity of the game will suffer nonetheless. I suppose there’s been legalized gambling on European soccer games for many years. The risk of players throwing games for financial gain has always been there, but the chances of this happening will go up markedly with the legalization of gambling.

Gambling, drugs, prostitution, do whatever you want. I’m not the morality police. I also have no illusions that legalizing sports gambling cheapens the game and increases the likelihood of fixing games.

Btw I like the Isles on the money line against Philly in the first game back. :naughty:

Hats off to Lou walking from Lehner and all his drama. Every picture of him is in Golden Knights jersey - and what did they get out of the constant drama around him? More unnecessary drama.

I never said Lehner was connected to gambling.

The obvious connection to me but not to you is the potential for throwing games. Lehner’s circumstances, but not necessarily his own actions, place him in a situation where he might feel the need to compromise his morals.

It definitely raises the bar of temptation and suspicion where every controversial play such as the Rangers guy ripping the helmet off the Pitt player in the playoffs that wasn't called that led to their series victory because that guy had to scurry off the ice will lead us to wonder, is the ref on the take?

I don't think multimillionaires had trouble placing wagers even when sports betting wasn't legal, just like I don't think they had an issue getting booze during prohibition.
Pssst.....hey Joshua....over here.....take this envelope.....we're gonna show Handsome Lane how you handle 4th line demotion. Keep your voice down....just do as your told and nobody gets hurt. Yes sir, we all love our wives and children Joshua.

Really good people do stupid shit when their backs are against the walls. We shouldn’t be normalizing and enabling gambling. I’ve done plenty of gambling over the years so I get the allure.

Gambling should be kept the shadows. Do you know how many college kids have pissed away scholarship and family money to legalized sports books? Pro athletes are frequently of similar age and even less highly educated. Sports gambling is an addictive drug and society needs guardrails on it.

You find my position unreasonable because gambling has always been around. I don’t say this to be demeaning but I think your take is naive.

I don't find it unreasonable, I just think you're taking quite the leap to go from Lehner is bankrupt to he's going to throw NHL games because of it. Could it happen? Sure. Is it likely? No.

It's also less likely he'd do it in a legal way if he were to do it because it'd be a lot easier to trace back to him if it were.

As for the rest of it, people are free to do as they please. Whether that's getting a quality education or spending their money in a casino.

I hope Beau does well out West, which is probably where he needs to be, if he is going to take another step forward. Seems like a nice guy and I wish him much success - just not against the Isles.

And, if he does well, I think it potentially helps the Isles with other trades down the line. I know fans like the ripoff trade, but a trade that benefits both teams sometimes helps spur more movement.

I'm with you man. That goal he scored vs Tampa in playoffs was awesome. I hope he does well also. A trade that benefits both teams are the best ones. I think this can be that type of deal
