$500 Million = VGK expansion fee
$650 Million = Seattle expansion fee

Need I say more?

The Islanders will get a draft at UBS Arena before the league ever puts us in the Winter Classic. Besides, right now we’re not ready for prime time.
I understand that and I'm not expecting anything else (maybe an all-star game), but I don't think they've executed this flawlessly.

Winter Classics are a great opportunity for season ticket holders to sell the tix and make a killing.

Not ready for prime time? On a slow rink and low scoring games?

It’s like horses on the grass running their first race on dirt, that horse loses to us, since slow and low is something we can do in our sleep!

I think they missed an opportunity to showcase smaller markets by pairing them with some of the larger ones. Repeating teams the way they do is great for generating money in the moment but getting the smaller markets to grow would generate more money over time. I understand doing the original six teams early on, but we're way beyond establishing the event at this point.

The Stadium Series was a mistake because it watered down the significance of the Winter Classic. It also attracted way less national attention.

Road to the Winter Classic was a must see for die hard hockey fans and doing away with that/switching companies really lessened the build up for the event as well.

How many Western Conference teams have gotten to play in it? It's ridiculous.
I agree, there should be different teams each year in the WC. And I enjoyed the stadium series. They should do 1 a year with as regional as you can get teams.

We’d be an $8,000 claimer running in $75,000 allowance race. The course may be cruddy but the competition is still too strong.

I think the Stadium Series was a huge cash grab and was meant to appease fans of teams that will never get an opportunity to be in the Winter Classic. Maybe they could've done it better but it seemed so random (and the fact the Rags got two games out of that was also nutty).

Look at the standings, the early season young team darlings of BUF and DET (and OTT) are fading off into lotto land, which is typical once the season settles down and hit the halfway point. The Devils night ‘for real’ but let’s see how they make it through Jan and early Feb. My guess, is they fold.
You might want to check the recent results on those teams.

Buffalo has won 6 of their last 7
Ottawa has won 7 of their last 11
Detroit has won 3 of their last 4

Tells you more about their opponents actually…

I think the squeezed the golden goose dry. I don’t know anybody who made today’s game a stop everything must see. Between this and the Stadium Series games it’s been overkill for years. The league needs a new gimmick.

I wonder if it was the extra year on his contract, a "handshake" agreement by GMs to allow Detroit and Vrana more time in the AHL to get right, or a bit of both?
Too late to grab him and swap for bailey.

Lou must have been napping! 🤣

I saw the Lightning got beat by the Wild 5-1 and Brian Elliot was in net. I then checked the stats for both goalies and -

Vasilevskiy is 16-9-1 with a .921 save percentage, while Elliot is 8-3 with a staggeringly-bad .897 save percentage.

Those Tampa players must really love Elliot and come out and play hard for him, because otherwise I am not sure anyone can fully explain that, even with Elliot probably getting to face weaker competition most nights.

It's the risk. Obviously the risk is high if teams are willing to give multiyear deals to Evander Kane, but not to a scorer that is arguably at a similar talent level. If not for that risk, he'd have been snapped up in an instant. I also doubt there's a way other teams could get information about how he is doing without it being tampering, and seeking that information would be highly unethical (potentially illegal - I'm not a lawyer, but still) to boot.

Your daily cup of sunshine

The Leafs have 31 players that have played at least one game this year.

Michael Bunting is the +/- leader at +21

Guess who has the worst +/- stats on the entire team at -5?
I hate looking at the Leafs stats, and not because of him. Because it reminds me NYI could have had Nylander or Ehlers instead of MDC. Nylander has matured into such a solid player along with his skill.

It’s a risk and an act of desperation. Edmonton was desperate. And in typical fandom, fans cheered when he produced, if he didn’t, then Edmonton would have gotten destroyed by the fans and press.

Whatever you thought of him as an Islander, Ebs is a class act. Some great stuff from his time here.
