And the Devils don’t have any extra draft picks and their rebuild is nowhere near done. They have overachieved. Tough to manage those expectations now. They are going to have to dig into their own ‘future’ to try to stay afloat or bust out.

Carolina has more points. Need them to lose. Bottom line.
Long season. Plenty of teams have had long win streaks and long losing streaks. No one team is running away in the Metro, if any team does it’s Carolina and only bc they are healthy in net.

Unless we wanted to let Carolina have 1st place (even for now) and let Devils continue to fall back our way. Passing teams at this point might be good confidence boost for us

How'd it go last night?....we had quiet night at home. Just hanging out watching FB this afternoon. Pre game NHL nap upcoming.

Threw on a tie with my workday business casual, and had a blast. Sangria, spicy margaritas, and it wasnt even a Mexican place 😁, and the seafood paella was fantastic

Better they stay buried and not inch up the standings

I was hoping that Florida would be able to keep Tampa out of the playoffs. But we definitely don't need Bedard in the East, let alone with a team like Florida.

I get the feeling that the NHL will find a way to get Bedard to a team like Florida. High scoring team in the South fits Bettmans desire for hockey "growth".

No one ever loses in this division

It is truly amazing. And the blueprint is out on a team like the Rags too. Play physical but play smart. Yet teams just hand them PPs.

All I'm worried about is getting a spot in the dance. All else goes on the back burner for now

Bettman and NHL conspiracy theories?

That’s only if you think the Isles have any chance to catch Carolina, which I don’t know many do. This was preferable to a NJ win
Still more than half the season to play. Not sure how anyone would think the division is out of reach.

We’re closer to the Flyers and Canadiens than Carolina. Everyone is optimistic during winning streaks though…

Am I the only one who is infuriated by this announcement of next year's Winter Classic? This is ridiculous. Seattle in its second year in the league gets to host a Winter Classic, when there are 20 teams in the NHL who have never even appeared in one. They would not even consider letting us be in one, with our history and one of the most successful American franchises in the sport, let alone host one, but Seattle (which is not a big market by any stretch) will host one in its second season. Absurd.

The Isles don’t deserve one - there are better markets to grow the game. Seattle brings in the Canadian market. The isles needs to build their own fanbase first…(which is what they are doing but the ‘blue collar’ Nassau was amazing crowd seems to be stuck in the 80s).

The Isles may get an All Star Game in the near future as that’s typical of teams with new arenas…My guess is Malkin and the NHL want the hotel and shopping district done first.

It's to be expected. I think they've gone about the Winter Classic all wrong but if it's what it is at this point.

What are your thoughts?

I think they missed an opportunity to showcase smaller markets by pairing them with some of the larger ones. Repeating teams the way they do is great for generating money in the moment but getting the smaller markets to grow would generate more money over time. I understand doing the original six teams early on, but we're way beyond establishing the event at this point.

The Stadium Series was a mistake because it watered down the significance of the Winter Classic. It also attracted way less national attention.

Road to the Winter Classic was a must see for die hard hockey fans and doing away with that/switching companies really lessened the build up for the event as well.

How many Western Conference teams have gotten to play in it? It's ridiculous.

$500 Million = VGK expansion fee
$650 Million = Seattle expansion fee

Need I say more?

The Islanders will get a draft at UBS Arena before the league ever puts us in the Winter Classic. Besides, right now we’re not ready for prime time.
