He was assistant GM at that time. I'm guessing he had some input.
That’s an unknown. That’s like giving Chris Lamorillo credit for whatever Lou has done.

What we do know is his transactional record is terrible in Toronto was terrible. So far in PIT it’s looking just as bad.

Almost caught a break with SJ. Detroit in a tail spin at a really bad time. Points against bud and Ottawa are a must. Buffalo looks to have a bit of momentum. Going to be a tougher game than expected.

Buf is playing the same way ever year after the deadline. With zero pressure and a nothing to lose style, they can beat teams. And everyone gets all excited the next step is coming in their 100 year rebuild, then games 1-55/60 are played and they are in lotto land like usual.

This Rempe situation is getting out of hand. I hate Tom Wilson, but the guy can play the sport. This guy is a flat out tool. He plays 5 minutes a game, gets in a fight and targets opposing players. That is all he does. He needs to be suspended after last night.
But am I the only one concerned about this as it relates to the Isles? We play them 3 times in the last 15 games and then a very good chance we play them in the playoffs if we make it. Over the course of a best of 7 series, could you imagine if we are ahead by multiple goals near the end of any game. He surely would be targeting our top guys and I am not sure if we have anybody who can neutralize him, MAYBE Martin.
Imagine he takes out a guy like Barzy or Horvat or Dobson in the first game or two of a playoff series. Who cares if he gets suspended for 20 games. That does not hurt the Rags at all. I never thought I would say this but I almost feel like we should have looked into bringing back Johnston at the deadline.
Well he got 4 games and the 4th is against us so at least that’s one game we don’t have to worry about Rempe trying to behead our players

Yzerplan is the biggest joke

I understand just about every move Yzerman makes.

And he clearly doesn't "just" collect young talent and try 'n let it figure things out. He's prolly added more from the outside the past two summers than anyone.

The current swoon - which we kicked off - is also accompanied by the loss of Larkin to injury. I'm gonna say that this is the hurdle that is hardest for them to overcome and is a primary reason why the team is stumbling.

It's not any excuse. Injuries happen and teams then learn (or are forced) to sink or swim. They're sinking.

But I wouldn't be so quick to say this is indicative of a failed organizational plan.

I think the one thing really seperating the current Wings (planwise) from the teams that won multiple Cups over the past 15 years is the lack of a perhaps self-drafted stud in net. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that one of Cossa or more likely Augustine is going to remedy that deficit. The other key pieces one gets through the draft are there and Stevie boy has been more than ready to continue adding pieces to the puzzle.

Obviously, it will always suit our purposes to have teams like Detroit, Buffalo, and Ottawa stumbling despite so many promising youngsters. Can throw Montreal in there as well.

So, the Isles can make the playoffs w/o Barzal and go on quite a run, yet Detroit folds fast w/o Larkin? What does that tell you about the roster he assembled?

He’s doing a pretty mediocre job as GM.

That's a very fair perogative.

I'm not gonna compare what Lou does to what Yzerman is doing.

Even if I did, their starting points with their current situation were so clearly different that there's little reason to guesstimate what one would have done in the other's shoes.

But what Steve has been doing in Detroit is simply the same thing that the teams that won multiple cups over the past 15-20 years did, including a TBL team that he established into a contender. And he was brought back home for this specific (rebuilding) purpose.

If Detroit (hopefully) misses the playoffs this spring, it'll not serve as a reason to deter from the plan, many fruits of which are still first to be seen.

I’m not even comparing him to Lou. If anything, Yzerman walked into TB with franchise players and aging elite players in the fold. He already had a strong starting point bc the franchise was a train wreck when he got there. He had some excellent drafts picks, whiffed on a bunch too.

In Detroit, he keeps slap sticking together a roster, but doesn’t have the franchise players and elite players as a comparable. Larkin is a strong player. Same with Seider. The rest and his patchwork is kinda meh.

Like I said, they are somewhat benefitting from PIT and WAS fading, the Isles anchoring themselves all season, and Fitz and His Self Created Mess in NJ.

I doubt they make it to the playoffs this season and absent some faders next year and improvements this offseason, doubt it next year. Interestingly, if FL needs cap space to sign Reinhart, I see Yzerman being the buyer of Bob in his quest to actually get a goalie.

If Lou signs any college UFAs this spring, what are the chances it's this guy?:

But this is an addition I certainly wouldn't mind. Very much impressed me in two showings this winter. Would like him more as an AHL signing, but I think someone's gonna give him an ELC:
