We certainly don't have "literally nothing". We have Jeff Skinner, Elias Lindholm, Jordan Staal, Jiri Tlusty, Nathan Gerbe, Brock McGinn, Riley Nash, Victor Rask, Justin Faulk, Haydn Fleury, Ryan Murphy, Danny Biega, Jacob Slavin, Dan Altshuller, and Alex Nedeljkovic all 26 or under.

Is that great? No. Are there a lot of teams with better pipelines? Yes. But it's not particularly awful or "literally nothing" either.

GMs don't really scout. I would say they almost NEVER do. That's what scouting departments, asst GMs, and Player Personnel guys are for. So can we get off the "JR scouting this guy" business

GM's almost certainly always see the guys they draft play in person. The amount that they rely upon their scouts varies by how much the GM's trust them, but it's silly to think that the guy making the final call doesn't watch these guys. It's a big part of the job.

Our pipeline is ranked 29 out of 30 in the league, and we had the 7th overall pick last year. Perhaps instead of "literally nothing" I should have just said "nothing." But it's the 2nd worse "future," so to speak, in the league, combined with already being the 7th worst team in the league. We're in a bad spot. A REALLY bad spot. Hence, you know, firing our GM and having not made the playoffs in five years. And definitely not being a move or two away from being a playoff team. This draft helped, IMO. But we're going to need more of this, and the ability to actually get the most out of our picks once we get them.

Just asked. "Rarely." And it makes sense, too. They travel with the team, so there's no time to go on scouting trips.

Canes will never go full rebuild, PK can't afford it. JR screwed the team over handing out picks and prospects like they were candy in any trade he made trying to make the team competitive now.

Only way to dig themselves out of this hole, with the goal of still trying to be a wildcard team, is to slow play it for the next 3-5 years building through the Draft and hoping our current core can put together healthy, productive seasons.

Lightning in a bottle approach without the added JR antics of treating draft picks like chiclets (to use the common vernacular here)

Or, I should mention, just tank HARD this year and pick up McDavid/Eichel. Take the Avalanche route to success (with an even better MacKinnon).

I don't think we can handle a tank hard season. We have too good for a forward corp to not be competitive.

Hey! Peters told me that if we win one more game a month than we are in the post season. By my math, you sir are wrong.

But those in bold are not pipeline players, they are young NHL roster players. The pipeline is indeed weak.

The pipeline is weak, but the young NHL talent is strong. In five years, most if not all of those players should still be on the team. That counts for something.

Does Tlusty and Boychuck have to accept their offers by 5 PM today if they decline do they go FA?

Our competitive forward crop is pretty good for 1 spot out of the playoffs on a good season.

The forwards aren't perfect but they're truly weak in only a couple of select spots (mainly 3C).

It's pretty clear, I think, that the biggest weakness is our blue line. That has been the case for years now -- look at the 2013 "where are they now" that BBA posted earlier.

So IMO, re-signing Hainsey and drafting Fleury (even at the cost of paying Cam) was a pretty good start toward making this team get better, not worse.

If Francis can do something to help our defense between now and October, there's no reason this shouldn't be a playoff team. The forwards and goaltending are good enough.
