I don't think dealing #1 for a combination of other picks is a good idea. It's just way too much risk even if you think Stutzle or Byfield is right there next to Lafreniere.

Now, trading #1 for a cost-controlled elite center on the right side of 25? That's something I could see the benefit in. Barkov, Eichel, Draisaitl. Someone like that.
I don't think so and I only say that because I can't imagine the Rangers finding ways to afford that kind of cap hit.
The chances of them trading this pick are lower than the Devils chances of winning the cup this season.

Yeah I saw the link on twitter and posted it.

I can't view it either, whomp whomp.

I didn't know negative odds could exist until today

I think those cannot be completely ruled out. I also think you can't completely rule out Ottawa as a trade partner.

But again, before everyone loses their mind, I want to emphasize that I would say possibility is relatively small --- as in a 20 percent chance or less.

What would OTT have to offer us bc i want more than the 3rd and 5th pick in this draft. Those are magic beans.

Laf is franchise altering like Panarin.

Give me Eichel if we are to trade this pick. Otherwise, Ott better be giving us 3rd 5th and braanstrom

Guys who are either making big money or will be making big money soon?

Don't see it happening. We don't really have the space to those guys AND ice a roster with proper depth.

Only way this pick is traded is NOT for magic beans.

Eichel thats it

The problem is you have to be able to work salaries into your structure and getting production from entry level salaries is essential in today's NHL.

Eichel can't be ruled out completely, but I don't know if I see the team adding a 24 year old, during his prime contract, at this point in time.

Not on top of the other commitments they have.

I think a lot of things would have to break right for it to happen. Most importantly, why would any of those teams give up those players for a guy who only might be as good?

Personally I don't test fate and I just make the pick.

I'll never understand why TSN geo blocks shit

Why exactly do they want to prevent people in the US from viewing that?

I'd expect the Rangers to explore all possibilities in a trade but ultimately they'll have to get blown away by an offer and I think other teams are more likely to play it conservative...even if Lafreniere is a consensus #1 pick he's still an unknown at the NHL level and teams aren't going to want to throw away all their depth and assets to acquire that pick

A lot would need to go right to make it work. Like I said in my other post, if it was me I would just make the pick. Just saying I can at least understand the thought process as opposed to trading #1 for more picks.

Assuming they do pick Lafreniere I'm honestly really interested to see in maybe 2 years the combo of him and Kakko...we know Kakko can be a bull with the puck and Lafreniere looks to have that "gamer" mentality...having to talented puck possession wingers like them will be interesting.

good lord I hope Kakko pans out too lol

Run with the lines from this year except Laf runs with Chytil and Kakko. Lemiuex Goat and Barron or Howden on the 4th isn’t shabby. If a good center or LD becomes available be ready to make the deal even if the cost seems a little prohibitive.

You act like you fell asleep and don't know either. Then you live this glorious moment in real time when you look it up for them.

I agree and you make a good point. Keep the known quantity. That is what I would do if I had control of an Eichel/Draisaitl. I have no desire for them to trade this pick.
