Congratulations from Penguinland. Worst possible outcome for us, missing it, and up and coming division rival snagging same. I suppose I should be relieved I won't have to listen to "Bettman rigged it for Pens", but it would be worth it to get an NHL-ready winger of that quality. Your boys are going to be getting really scary right about the same point my quickly decaying Pens will be applying for Social Security.

Very seriously, they need to get extremely creative to parlay that Carolina pick, move up, and see if they can get a center. Strome, Buch, Georgiev, the Carolina pick, maybe even a future pick, maybe even a defensive prospect, all should be in play (not all of it together.... but in some kind of combination).

It's funny--I was kind of nonchalant about this all day until we won. I wonder if Ottawa would offer the #3 and #5? That's the only thing I can think of that's worth mulling over instead of taking Lafreniere.

Once the Rangers have fleshed out the depth in our lineup I think we'll be Cup contending ready. It took a 22 year wait for me for the Rangers to win in 1994 and it's been 26 years since. In a couple years I'll be in my 50th year following the team. I would sure like to win again.

Jets fan coming in peace! If there was any team I would've wanted to get the 1st overall it was the Rangers. I'm shocked Pens, Oilers, or Maple Leafs didn't get it you know how that goes. Stoked Nashville didn't get it either haha. Disappointing Jets didn't get it, but congrats on Lafreniere. My late uncle was a huge Rangers fan so I've always enjoyed watching them also still like watching Trouba. Will be a fun team to watch for years to come with Shersterkin, Trouba, Deangelo, Fox, Chytil, Panarin, Zibenijad, Laff, and Kakko.

I get that Byfield would probably be the "smarter" pick, but Laf has been dubbed the #1 pick in this draft for a long while. He's BPA and will in all likelihood, be the pick.

first let me say I was just acting a fool a day ago saying I’d like Byfield. Now that it’s real like actually real something I could never imagine you absolutely take lafreniere. Doesn’t even matter who you have on your current roster. This is a franchise altering 15 year player. You build around this guy not the other way around.

weve already got a number one center that’s the toughest guy to get and he’ll be that guy for 5 years. Having to find a number 2 C? We’ll find one if Chytil isn’t already it. You could put a lot of guys between Panarin and Kakko or Lafreniere and they’ll put up 70 plus pts minimum.

it’s Lafreniere. And you don’t hesitate. This has never happened to us before. This kid runs circles around Kakko or Hughes. This is no friggen joke.

Why am i reading posts that say the pick can possibly be traded? Whoever has inside info with the team, please tell them to draft Lafreniere in case they are thinking of something else. Why the f*** do i even need to be stressed about this?

Here’s what excites me: Laf is a gamer. All business. In recent years, we have a ton of immensely skilled players that just weren’t winners. They didn’t elevate when it matters.

It will be a breath of fresh air to see that. He automatically replaces that “grit” and “leadership” that we lost with Lias.

I think those cannot be completely ruled out. I also think you can't completely rule out Ottawa as a trade partner.

But again, before everyone loses their mind, I want to emphasize that I would say possibility is relatively small --- as in a 20 percent chance or less.
