How could they have the game on saturday afternoon if there is a Billy Joel concert schedule for the evening? First off I hate Rangers afternoon games...maybe it's me but the intensity isn't the same as evening.
What are they gonna start the game at noon? UGH.
Also what if that game went into triple overtime and didn't end until 6/6:30 pm? They are gonna put on a concert in an hour later? Just move the damn concert and have the game played at night.

I said it yesterday, the Rangers can’t get into a pond hockey track meet competition. They have to take away the neutral zone to slow the Devils down and they need to keep hitting everyone. Hughes is fragile he’s due for an injury. Hamilton is a giant p***y, Ovechkin exposed him in the playoffs. Keep hitting him to make him f*** up. Rangers need to play a grinding style but I can’t see Gallant making the adjustments.
I don't think Gallant even watches the game live in front of him; what makes you think he'd even consider adjusting to what's happening on the ice?

i'm afraid we're screwed but i hope im wrong.
Those are my sentiments exactly.

It needs to go back to Top 8 make the playoffs. Just straight up the best 8 teams make the playoffs. No division winners getting higher seeds. No wild cards. Just given me old fashioned 1 v 8, 2 v 7, 4 v 5, and 3 v 6. Reseeding after each round for home ice.
This is the way! No one cares about "divisions" in the NHL. East vs. West is enough of a split.

Yup and we were 1-3 against Carolina. Means nothing. The Rangers need to set the tone physically. That's when they play their best. Hit them every chance they get.
You think anyone besides Trouba will step up?

Billy Joel plays there every other day to most likely the same people. Just move it to another day.

Pittsburgh gave us a far harder time than they should have and they lost their captain for a few games.

Experience is hugely important.
They didn’t just “lose” Crosby. He didn’t trip over the blue line or something. He was a casualty of hard playoff style hockey on our part.

Absolutely. Lindgren, Kreider, Goodrow, Trocheck, Schneider to name a few. I also think Laf and Tarasenko will lay a few hits also.

I don’t think Gallant is the best coach in the league, but one thing he does do is change lines mid-game.

I can see this going one of two ways:
1. Devils skate circles around us and clinch quickly (my take), or
2. Trouba, Schneider, Kreider, Laffy and Lindgren grind them down

Analogously:
1. They win with blitzkreig, or
2. We win a battle of attrition

Gonna be a boring series. Basically the Isles are playing a more dynamic and skilled version of themselves.
Haha. Let’s not pretend like we’re completely devoid of skill. Jeez

I find it really hard to feel too scared of a small team with no playoff experience. It's the NHL playoffs, anything can happen, but this is ours to lose.
Devil fan here, I come in peace.

However Speed is the name of the game in today's NHL. I dont see the Rangers containing 4 lines of speed.

As for playoff experience, I agree most players don't have any. However don't under estimate the D line. Out of the 8 defenseman the Devils have to use. Only 3 have 0 playoff experience, Bahl a rookie, Hughes (I don't think that it matter much with him), and Severson.

Regardless it should be a fun match up.

Question is whether or not they will.

They haven't at all against NJ this year. It seems like they only do it when the other team draws it out of them (minus that one Calgary game, I don't know where that came from.)

I'm not scared of them, what is going to drive me up a wall is the Hughes brothers gluck gluck session that will undoubtedly occur if we don't shut those two down completely and f*** with their mental. The minute we allow a Hughes brother to doodle around the ice as he pleases with that stupid ass smirk on his face is the minute we lose any ounce of structure we have. Don't discredit the ability for one of our bigger dogs to get in the head of Jack if he starts losing focus and paying more attention to his brother than the play in front of him. He's elite, but he's not McDavid, he's not MacKinnon, he's not Matthews, and he isn't Zibanejad, he's as malleable as he will ever be in his career right now.
The Devils are where we were last year right before facing the Pengs, no real pressure, everything is la-la land in New Jersey and they are excited to just get a taste of the yoffs.
But remember, this Rangers roster is NOT a retirement home like the Penguins and if NJ expects to walk us like we're some team on the back-end of it's cup window they're going to get a reality check real f***ing quick.

NYR is in it's prime
and we're still hungry

Maybe the Devils' speed enables them to just win, but I honestly see more pathways of success for the Rangers.

- Shesterkin can just goalie you.
- Hockey slows down in the playoffs. There's less space and more uncalled interference and holding.
- A best of seven series requires grinding, and players like Trouba can physically wear you down.
- Until proven otherwise, the moment may end up being too big for a team with little playoff experience, especially among its top forwards.
- Kane and Tarasenko are proven playoff winners that very well may flip it on as a wildcard.
- Even beyond all that, the Rangers have a good team who have played as well as just about anyone since December.
- Jimothy Vesey.

The Devils had a great season and have plenty of exciting players. That said, despite a slow start, the Rangers ended up right there with everyone besides Boston, and I'm a Rangers fan so I think we're going to f***ing eviscerate you.

I'd say good luck, but I'd be lying :)

Tampa game too. I think the intensity of the playoffs will increase the physical play.

If the latter happens that isn’t a curse. It’s just dumb management.

We knew Kane had injury issues coming in. We paid accordingly. I would hope they had a mutual agreement that he’d manage his reps until the games mattered.

If we get regular season Kane in the playoffs we might still win because he’s just a depth piece for us, but it’s looking pretty unlikely that he’s going to be a driving force to victory.
Kane might wind up being here just to make Panarin feel more motivated, pumping *him* up

A good non confrontational post in the house of the enemy. Commendable.

However, teams figured out how to to beat the Devils "4 lines of speed" 22 times in regulation this season.

Teams also figured out how to beat the Rangers 22 times in regulation this season (with the last game being completely meaningless and having two goals tossed - one a complete joke).

50/50. At worst. And we have a big advantage in net. I'll take my chances with what you think the Rangers can't do.

Wearing them down will be huge, but taking care of the puck will determine the series.if we turn it over like we did during the regular season against them, this will be a quick series

if the game plan is to play prevent defense and keep the puck out of trouble then the Rangers are gonna lose

against a team like the devils it's 100% about whether you can keep the puck out of their possession. They are an extremely good team when they can possess the puck and attack again and again. Playing "safe hockey" by throwing the puck away will lose this series.

The Rangers need to be able to break out of their own zone and establish an effect cycle, in addition to not always going for one and one transition attempts where they throw a prayer all the way across the ice that gets intercepted.

You have to be aggressive and own the puck, excecute, and not commit stupid turnovers. You very much do not want to have to defend against the Devils all game long, you want them defending. They're not the Hurricanes where 98% of their shots are garbage
