Also for ROR, didn't friedman come out and say he may have not actually liked what comes being a leaf? Popularity, pressure, media etc.

I don't understand this kind of thinking from hockey players or other sports stars in general... Like, you wanna be the best , make millions, be on tv for thousands of people cheering you on, yet you're afraid of or don't want the spotlight?? Also , getting into a sport that's played in the winter, and running to cities that have no snow? (Not RoR specific)Also for ROR, didn't friedman come out and say he may have not actually liked what comes being a leaf? Popularity, pressure, media etc.
I think it happens in all sports. Some people can't handle what it takes to be a Yankee, Laker, Knick etc. it's tough mentally and on the families. Some people also embrace it.I don't understand this kind of thinking from hockey players or other sports stars in general... Too funny. I'm probably crazy but I'd be love to be that hockey star that says f you to LA and sign in Winnipeg and win a cup.
End rant.
Also go Leafs go just cause.

ROR went to a rebuilding team, if you're a coveted veteran UFA with playoff pedigree and you go to a rebuilding team there is only one real reason - money.
If he went to another contender for "similar term/money" I could buy the idea he didn't like what he saw with the Leafs, but he didn't, he chased the most money he could get. Why else go to a team blowing things up? Lifestyle may have also been a factor, rumour has it he doesn't like the spotlight, Nashville gives you that.
I'm aware of what was said. I'm also aware that everyone always says it's not about the money, when in fact it almost always is. I would imagine multiple teams made comparable offers to ROR, including other contenders, but similar doesn't mean the same. The insiders at the time said money/term were not an issue for the Leafs, but ROR decided to leave anyway. i.e. Leafs were offering a similar contract.
So maybe it was the tax rate, maybe he didn't like the spotlight, maybe he didn't like the dressing room, who knows. But based on the reports, Nashville didn't offer more $$ or term than the Leafs.
Trade we need draft capital
Brodie
Lafferty
Jamcrock
Trade for
Hartman 1.7 mil I am not to sure we would have to give up
UFA's that are still available
Dumba 4.5 mil isn't signed yet has a great shot from the point hits can move the puck
Cal Foote .800 thousand
Austin Watson 1.3 mil good skater hits fight can pk
There are a few differences between Nashville and Toronto. The insiders at the time said money/term were not an issue for the Leafs, but ROR decided to leave anyway. i.e. Leafs were offering a similar contract.

i could see him as a Marlies signing and cheap 'insurance'Maple Leafs Linked To Brian Elliott

The remaining unrestricted free agent market for goaltenders isn’t exactly the deepest with the options mostly being veteran backups or third-stringers. But it appears at least one netminder has a potential suitor as Larry Brooks of the New York Post suggests that Brian Elliott could be on his way to Toronto.
The 38-year-old is a 16-year NHL veteran and has spent time with six different teams. Tampa Bay was the last of those squads as Elliott suited up for two seasons with them, posting a 2.96 GAA along with a .900 SV% in 41 games. Notably, Elliott has only surpassed the .900 SV% mark once in the last four seasons.
With that in mind, the connection to the Maple Leafs might seem a bit surprising. However, projected backup Joseph Woll is still inexperienced with just 11 career NHL regular season appearances under his belt. Matt Murray remains in the organization for the time being but with Toronto’s salary cap situation, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll be suiting up for them in 2023-24 as things stand.
Meanwhile, among their other four goalies on an NHL contract (Dennis Hildeby, Artur Akhtyamov, Keith Petruzzelli, and Vyacheslav Peksa), none of them have played a single minute at the top level. Only Petruzzelli (30 games) and Hildeby (two games) have played in the AHL. Accordingly, counting on any of them to come up and serve as an injury replacement for Ilya Samsonov or Woll would be risky.
being on the Leafs adds a level of scrutiny that he wasnt used to, and perhaps didnt like ...like, everything from, he was supposed to lead them in the playoffs to he cant skate anymore, and is a sloth on the ice.The insiders at the time said money/term were not an issue for the Leafs, but ROR decided to leave anyway. i.e. Leafs were offering a similar contract.

offer Dumba a 1 year 1 mil deal, and tell him he can earn a Reilly deal next year and re-sign him, or let him cash out for big bucks after a big season with the Leafs.Trade we need draft capital

They’ll need a vet on the Marlies for insurance.
They won’t try and sneak Woll through waivers, that would be dumb.
(Wasn’t implying that your post was dumb)
Maybe he's connected to the player...Every morning I wake up, wonder what the inside scoop on the Leafs is and think “Larry Brooks”.
One player I would love to go after if he's cleared of any wrong doing is Alex Formenton. He would be such a great addition to our top 9.
Makes sense as they don't have another goalie that has even shown well in the AHL yet.Maple Leafs Linked To Brian Elliott

Dumba was injured in a fight in 2018. Shoulder maybe? After that his game changed and the scoring never came back. If he isn't scoring he isn't really valuable. Maybe another future Blackhawk. This Dumba talk, is one of the dumbast ideas this forum has.
You know Connor Timmins, in limited ice time, put up the same amount of points as Matt Dumba last year? Dumba has always been, and continues to be poor defensively.
Our D needs to get bigger most agree... but let's bring in 180lbs Dumba... and get rid of Brodie at the same time. I mean, who wouldn't want a complete tire fire of a D?
..and those who project Dumba could put up big numbers with us.... without any PP time at that, because he's surely not going to push out Rielly, or even Klingberg. I mean Dumba has ZERO PP points last year. Dumba... the guy who has averaged less than 22 points a year, for the last five, is suddenly going to put up big points here!!
This isn't some mythical player that was projected to be very good, years ago... he's a guy who sucks... at both ends of the ice, and isn't very big.
the fact that guys like wheeler and duchene didn't pick the leafs was a bit of a red flag for me. Especially for wheeler who would have had opportunity with a fellow american in Wheeler and end up picking another eastern team.
Heck ROR didn't pick us. Most concerning red flag for me. Maybe these guys figure it out like the bickering Bills did before they went on to 4 consecutive Super Bowls.
