Waive Woll and lose him to sign Elliott?

Woll and Sammy are both injury prone and none of the Marlies guys have played a minute of NHL action. Should be looking for a vet 3rd stringer. Not sure about Elliott though.
The Leafs do not want to carry 3 goalies either, so it's not ideal. Sure they could try to sneak him down, but that's usually when teams claim Leaf players.

Perhaps to his Newmarket home.

You realize that's an article from Larry Brooks right? Does this guy have any kind of inside info around the league? Or does he just guess that because Elliot is from Ontario and is probably retiring after this next season.
He just guessed. He even said perhaps.

I'd assume they'll try and sneak someone down.
They’ll need a vet on the Marlies for insurance.
They won’t try and sneak Woll through waivers, that would be dumb.

(Wasn’t implying that your post was dumb)

What would be the trade cost of retaining .6m in 23-4 and 2m 24-5? Would that be around a 4th?

This trade is super eye opening to anyone who's in the trade Nylander camp. I'd imagine our return would be similar to that, if not a tad more which would be super disappointing.

We’ll then go blow those assets at the trade deadline for a player worse than Nylander who’s walking as a free agent anyway.

Adding a vet third string for insurance isn’t a bad thing. No one is picking up Elliot through waivers either.

Yeah I think people underestimate the need for a veteran 3rd stringer. Samsonov wasn't the most durable last season and Woll also had some serious injuries over the years. Murray is too expensive to be that.

Elliott does suck though... so the Leafs would probably better off with Petruzzelli or Hildeby... but it's not a big deal.

One player I would love to go after if he's cleared of any wrong doing is Alex Formenton. He would be such a great addition to our top 9.
I completely agree with this. A big, super fast, winger who will get you 20 or more. He’s also from the GTA and I’m sure wants to start over. But, the fact that he’s the only one who has been excommunicated from the NHL from that group of 2018 players is concerning. Makes me feel like he may be one of the five getting charged. Also, Comtois just kinda sitting there too. There doesn’t seem to be any indication of when all this stuff is going to conclude. It would be nice to know once and for all what happened and who is guilty.

the fact that guys like wheeler and duchene didn't pick the leafs was a bit of a red flag for me. Especially for wheeler who would have had opportunity with a fellow american in Wheeler and end up picking another eastern team.

Heck ROR didn't pick us. Most concerning red flag for me. Maybe these guys figure it out like the bickering Bills did before they went on to 4 consecutive Super Bowls.

I mean, Bertuzzi and Domi chose the Leafs on contracts that they clearly could have gotten elsewhere.

Wheeler and Duchene who have no ties to this organization not signing here aren't red flags to me. ROR, Schenn, Foligno, Acciari, Lyubushkin, and pretty much every deadline rental we've acquired for years leaving is a bit of a red flag though.

In some cases, they probably left for $$ (though that's still this teams fault for the poorly handled top heavy contract structure), but ROR was apparently offered similar $$/term and didn't want to return, even though he specifically wanted to come here only a few months earlier. What changed?

The Leafs made offers to both players and were turned down?

ROR went to a rebuilding team, if you're a coveted veteran UFA with playoff pedigree and you go to a rebuilding team there is only one real reason - money.

If he went to another contender for "similar term/money" I could buy the idea he didn't like what he saw with the Leafs, but he didn't, he chased the most money he could get. Why else go to a team blowing things up? Lifestyle may have also been a factor, rumour has it he doesn't like the spotlight, Nashville gives you that.
