Just trade 34 to Zona. Matthews gets huge dollars. They get an arena. We get a shit/ton of picks/players.

If Nylander is traded, I wouldn't expect that a guy like Brodie be involved too. That would be asking the other team to deal with 12 mil in new capspace. Also how many teams want 2 expiring contracts?

Re Dumba - I'd be interested in him in a reclamation project type capacity, but he shouldn't be a main part of a D core at this stage of his career. Low hockey IQ and not great defensively.....

I wonder if there'd be an appetite for a Seth Jones for Nylander type blockbuster, plus plus on both sides? People usually hate Jones but he is a workhorse do everything, big wingspan defenseman. Nylander could move to the Hawks out of conference to one of his childhood destinations and pile up points with Bedard.

I've got zero interest in Dumba, we've already invested in an offense first reclamation project in Klingberg this offseason

Also after Brodie and McCabe we start running short on babysitters on the backend

I'm cautiously optimistic about Treliving's signings so far.

At least he's trying to inject some "snot" into the lineup. To be honest though the Leafs could bring in Chuck Norris and the team wouldn't be any tougher. Not so long as the corporate motto continues to remain "love thy neighbour".

It's impossible an entire team of hockey players would collectively come together and play this soft voluntarily.

There's no way you could find that many natural pacifists in the NHL. Which is why I believe it's been a company directive to this point. I can easily imagine Shanahan telling them all "For the love of God, whatever you do, don't fight."

"You'll get your asses kicked."

I see Treliving's signings so far as a welcome, and long overdue, attempt at an attitude adjustment.

Go Leafs Go.

Honestly, if we are set on moving Nylander and Calgary is an option, I'd be looking as a basis:

Calgary:
Brodie
Nylander

Toronto:
Weegar
Lindholm

Maybe Conroy isn't as enthused about Weegar's long-term deal just signed when Treliving was there....

If you are moving Brodie, you need to get someone back who can play in the situations that Brodie was used in, and I don't think Zadorov is that. I see Z as a very good 3LHD. Weegar finally brings a true RHD to our 1RHD, and should mesh well with Reilly, along with an already signed long-term contract.

Not sure if that's an even trade or +'s are needed, but any movement away from Brodie needs to bring someone back who can do what Brodie has done for us.
Why would Calgary do this in

Weegers contract in 2 yrs will look great.
With the cap.going up a 5 mil contract will be 6 mill.
This yr with GM"s thinking that the cap is going to start climbing to 87 mil next yr
A 1 mil contract will be 2 mil
Accuri perfect example 2 mil contract.

I don't think Conroy will trade weeger

Switch Nylander and lindholm im agree could be a good move but i dont think moving best defensive d for weagar will make leafs better. The fact hes a RHD and hes good doesn't mean hes whats leafs needing...

Weagar is not what rielly need... rielly need at stay at home D who will play a safe game and play physical, its nit whats weagar bringing.

Second i dont see why calgary would trade weagar with term for a rental brodie

Weegar is what, 30? I'm sure for 2-4 years he's gonna be worth the 6.25M

At ages 35-38 though, unlikely, cap may go up but won't be worth the hit.

To Toronto: Joseph Veleno
To Detroit: Nick Robertson

To Toronto: Cody Glass + NSH 1st & VAN 2nd Round Draft Picks
To Nashville: William Nylander

To Toronto: Connor Murphy
To Chicago: Matt Murray + Sam Lafferty + TOR 1st Round Draft Pick

To Toronto: Nikita Zadorov
To Calgary: TJ Brodie

To Toronto: Owen Tippett
To Philadelphia: Conor Timmins + Pontus Holmberg + NSH 1st Round Draft Pick

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Tippett
Tavares - Domi - Marner
Knies - Glass - Jarnkrok
Veleno - Kampf - Reaves

Rielly - Murphy
McCabe - Liljegren
Zadorov - Klingberg
#7 Giordano

Samsonov - Woll

Team just fits under the salary cap carrying Gio as the #7 defenceman.

Lindholm on an extension I think will probably come in fairly close to what Nylander ends up getting he's also older and a lesser player.

I don't necessarily mind that type of deal as a last resort if Nylander outright refuses to compromise on a deal. But I'm not sure how better the team gets
I think Lindholm will cost less to sign. Assuming the contract is part of the trade, he would not be perverted by the culture yet. I think he will be in the low to mid $8 million range and will be ok with 5-6 years. Nylander will be almost impossible because if he waits for Matthews and they give Matthews $14 million, Nylander is going to push for $11 million. 😞

Something like that could potentially happen, though I'd see the Hawks then likely move Nylander in a follow on deal.

Debates about Jones aside (personally I'm not a fan), but an issue for the leafs is it opens a pretty big hole offensively for the team. A 33 year old Tavares would then be expected to carry twice the effort on that second line

If the Leafs are to move Nylander, I might suggest it's best to spread that cap around a little, not to continue to keep in concentrated amongst four or five players.

Any top four RHD is going to cost you a minimum of a 1st round draft pick.

Not sure what people’s obsession is with Holmberg. He’s a solid young player, but with Kampf and Reaves locked up I think you need someone with more of an edge.

Isn't Reaves pretty edgy?
