I still wonder if he's worth a fly even for a year. He can be a good depth player
If he doesn't pan out, then cut losses and move on

Maybe sign 1 year show me what you got deal

I think the one difference is in all those situations he was being relied on as a core piece of the forward group. We don’t need that. He’d be a complimentary forward and wouldn’t carry the same locker room weight

Duchene is a year removed from a 43 goal, 80 point season as a speedy center that can bump Tavares to the wing.

I's take him in a heartbeat. We need to solve our scoring issues in the playoffs and he is one of the few free agents that can actually score goals.

he just got "bought out" because the dude cheats for offense, is lazy, doesn't backcheck.

we don't need that kinda player to begin with especially at center position.

ROR was very critical of both coaching and his teammates without naming names but you could see his frustration with the Leafs playoff run.

Ryan O'Reilly Laments on Lack of Playoff Success With Maple Leafs, Will he Re-Sign?

"I think playing against Florida and how they came out and played so loose and just physical that as we saw we kind of dug ourselves a hole quick and just didn't kind of respond the way we needed to there," O'Reilly said.

"And then Bob (Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky) gets hot and next thing you know we're down two and not feeling great about ourselves. There are so many things we could have done differently, it's frustrating. We could have given that series a better chance and that's just the way the game goes sometimes".

"When you get into these moments when it's challenging you have to find a way to pull something out of each other and find a way to give a bit more," O'Reilly said. "I think at times against Tampa we did that; It's so many things that could have been different. We didn't respond a certain way we needed to in a couple of those games and it's disappointing. I feel I wish it could have done better and I know other guys feel that way too."

So why didn’t he do those things? Where was the fight he brought to be an example for the others? He played some of the softest mistake prone hockey among them.

Leafs need to come out of free agency with one of Bertuzzi, Killorn, Duchene, or Domi. Anything less is damning this team to being carried by the Core Four for offence and running into the same problems come playoff time.
Bertuzzi and Domi are a no go for me for a few reasons. But they'll likely get paid far too much.

Duchene got bought out for the reasons that people here suspect are already an issue, so ..

Killorn, maybe on a one year.
