Kind of figured Kral would be back. He seemed to be developing ok, got a couple games with the Leafs and then seemingly fell off the face of the earth after that. Would have qualified him, sent him through waivers and given him another year with the Marlies to see if he could develop into anything.

The others aren't surprising

Injuries derailed his progress. He was ok at best for the most the year and his stint with the Leafs was pretty mediocre as well. I'm not surprised.

Hollowell to me looked better overall with the Marlies and with his stint, but he also got sidelined with injuries too often.

I don't think they had any future with the Leafs, so the Leafs giving them a shot at finding a new home is good for both sides. It won't be hard to replace their value as depth.

The Maple Leafs have extended qualifying offers to goaltender Ilya Samsonov and forwards Nick Abruzzese and Semyon Der-Arguchintsev. The club did not extend qualifying offers to defencemen Mac Hollowell, Filip Král and Victor Mete.

Kral is the only one I might have kept for another season.

The organization at this moment in time has only 9 defensemen under contract with only 3 signed defense prospects. Brutal. I don't know whether any of the AHL contract defensemen are candidates for an NHL ELC.

This time last year, I remember the talks that the Leafs would have to give up a 1st round pick or something to get Mackenzie Blackwood. A year later, he goes unqualified.

Noah Gregor would be a very solid depth player to get.

He was a bit shaky in his NHL audition but there seemed to be a future NHL defenseman in there somewhere.

Gadjovich is a must get if the Leafs want a 4th line enforcer. He's young, sticks up for his teammates, a good Ontario boy, and can actually play unlike Simmonds.

Is Koster for sure returning to NCAA for his senior year? I wouldn't mind giving him an ELC now if he was ready to turn pro but that's the kind of thing that feels like if it was happening it would have already happened.

Hollowell was not an NHL guy. He was AHL depth, and we can do a lot better TBH (especially since Niemela and Villeneuve should be getting the main PP minutes on the Marlies next year). Without the Dubas connection, there really wasn't any reason to keep him any longer.

Kral would be a good bounce-back candidate for a team, because he was mostly just hurt last year. I guess it all depends on who we bring in to replace him.

I far prefered Hollowell than Krals game through the last 2 seasons with the Marlies. I also much preferred his stint over Kral in the NHL. He was much better, which probably shows that he played 6 NHL games versus the 2 of Kral... he was not very good.

Kral never impressed me ever and was constantly injured.

But yeah they are replaceable. It's no biggie.

Well, it appears that the inmates will continue to run the asylum known as the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Shanahan, and his new GM, appears to be allowing Matthews, Nylander, and Marner, get to July 1st allowing their no move, no trade clauses to kick in. What is our front office trying to accomplish by allowing this to happen?

IMO, they are allowing the players to dictate the situation with their next contracts. This is the worst possible scenario for us the fans in Leafs Nation. It means the future will not get any better. Same old, same old, next season and beyond IMHO.

With Matthews and Nylander, I would have informed them that they had till 48 hours before draft day to have an contract extension agreed upon and signed. If there were no signed contracts in place by then, they would be at risk of being traded to another NHL team offering the highest bids.

MLSE, and our front office, must STOP letting the inmates run the asylum. One of the core 4 needed to be traded, and now it appears this will me much harder to accomplish.

Shanahan has no clue how to run an NHL hockey team. He is working in favor of every other NHL team by ho;ding back our Leafs from being REAL Stanley cup contenders. Just good enough to be a decent regular season team that folds like a cheap tent in the playoffs.

JMHO.
