Other Sports: NCAA Thread v12

From what I have seen, this draft is extra terribad for linebackers - he was one of the highest-ranked ones.

There’s Edgerrin Cooper, who should comfortably go Top 50. There’s Payton Wilson, who has been downright excellent but has one of the scariest injury histories you will ever see and was a 6th year player.

And then we’re done.

Zero interest in Trotter. Born in the wrong decade. There are some Day 3 guys I would take fliers on, but that’s it.

Here is where I would post a "STOP - I can only get so erect" gif, but that is all in the past.

Yeah obviously it looks like they’ll be having a new DC next year but I can’t imagine base/personnel wise it will be too different for Penn State next year. It really wasn’t going from Pry to Diaz. Diaz is/was just far more aggressive in blitzing of the two.

But in any event I kind of hope Penn State might consider shifting Carter more to the edge next year. At least with Parsons you could hang your hat on that he was really good a traditional off the ball LB things at the college level (PFF had him as one of the top defenders against the run & he was the best tackler in the country his two years there). Carter was pretty bad at those things this year (although for a true freshmen the year before he was above average). They have good depth at LB too even with losing Curtis Jacobs. Their true freshmen this year in Tony Rojas who was a high recruit looked really good in limited snaps this year behind Carter.

I have a really weird wishlist at the moment (subject to change, of course) - I want either Sweat or the best OL on the board when we pick (though I would take both if the board fell kindly).

I think a RT and Sweat by the end of Round 2 is perfectly reasonable. Not remotely a stretch unless Sweat goes nuclear with testing.

Hell, maybe you get really lucky and snag Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon as a Center in Round 3 too. Their needs match up well with the expected board right now.

The sad reality is that a lot of these mid-tier kids that end up in the portal will likely not get picked up by another school (or at least at the level they're currently playing at), and their current team is going to look at a younger HS recruit to backfill the spot. I understand that it must be frustrating to spend 2-3 years in a program and not see much of the field, but a lot of these kids would be remised to remember that their current spot is probably the best situation for them for life after football.

If you don't get picked up, you're likely staring JUCO in the face and a slim hope to just get back to the D-1 level. Even lesser programs tend to prefer HS recruits at this point because they get 4-5 years of development out of a kid.

This is 100% a last minute NIL push and has nothing to do with Beck likely returning to school. Even if Beck didn't return, did he really think he was going to come in and start as a freshman over BVG or Bobo's love child, Gunner Stockton? Both those guys have 2+ years in the program and that ain't Kirby's MO.

Either way, this is the stuff that's going to drive coaches out of the game. You literally have to recruit kids for years.

I think if he wants another big job this is really his only route to potentially achieve that after what happened at Miami. I don’t think he could make that jump from Penn State DC.

It's wild that he dropped from HC to LB coach after the Miami/Temple debacle. Probably says a lot about how heavily he damaged himself with that whole thing.
