Other Sports: NCAA Thread v12

THIS AND AN EAGLES SUPER BOWL IN THE SAME WEEK.

I generally think dropping down from the NFL to college can be a good thing. Even in cases where some coaches are proven average at the NFL level they can go on to have some success at the college level. Like Wink Martindale probably is/was considered an average DC at the NFL but he had some success this year at Michigan.

I just don’t really buy it with Patricia though. It’s hard for me to separate his only noteworthy accomplishments are tied to be Belichick & everything else away from it was god awful.

I’m starting to get my travel games together for next year. This is a perfect season to go smaller since the most interesting “big” game is in Happy Valley anyway. Going to shoot for this list:

Eastern Carolina at App St — I’ve never been to Boone and I hear nothing but the best things about the game day experience.

Utah vs BYU — Maybe the most fun rivalry on the field in the sport?

Pitt at West Virginia — Thank god they play again.

Iowa at Wisconsin — Don’t judge me.

If the schedule works out, I may try to squeeze in App St at James Madison too. That’s the good stuff.

Jay Wright was a unicorn. Villanova is probably never going to find a coach capable of doing what he did and if somehow they even get someone who's like 80% of Jay Wright the coach isn't staying at Villanova for 20 years.

Villanova has one of the higher NIL stipends in the NCAA. They shouldn't have any problem getting talent, they just need a coach who knows how to use that talent. Neptune wasnt it

If it weren’t for that collective, they would be perfectly content being at a level where they make the tournament most years and end up on a run every once in a while. But Villanova has had 4 coaches in 52 years, and haven’t had a coach go less than 7 seasons in 96 years. They’re at least stating that they have much higher expectations. In a media market like Philly, where Villanova has firmly established that they are the top dog in the Big 5, no reason why they can’t a top 20 program consistently.
