This is pretty odd that no one signed, right?

Not that unusual, there's probably only a few guys who'll end up signing. Since it's the middle of August, there isn't a ton of urgency to sign as quick as possible. Chase Priskie signed within 24 hours of becoming a free agent in 2019, but Carolina had tried to acquire his rights beforehand so there might have been some backdoor communication.

In recent memory, guys like Jimmy Vesey (signed August 19th), Kevin Hayes (August 20th), and Will Butcher (August 27th) took their time and spoke with several teams. Butcher in particular physically flew to visit and tour team facilities. If I recall correctly, Vesey's agent set up camp and teams flew in to pitch to them.

CapFriendly had an update of several additional names (plus some players who didn't become UFA):

I guess Ottawa just doesn't care about Novak and Tychonick as they've both signed elsewhere. Novak is with 3R in the ECHL and Tychonick signed with the Leafs, but I'm pretty sure it was just a two-way AHL deal. (So, AHL-ECHL)

Doesn’t Janicke remain on the Ducks reserve list until next year since he went back to school?

Doesn’t Janicke remain on the Ducks reserve list until next year since he went back to school?

The NHL appears to have taken the position that Janicke spent four years in college and has "graduated" per CBA 8.6(c), thus his draft rights expire even though the NCAA has granted him a 5th year of eligibility.

Alright, somebody will have to explain this one to me
Tychonick played 5 years of college and went pro at the end of last year
Why is Ottawa retaining his rights?

I'm suspecting it's because he signed a contract covering the 2023-24 AHL season before his draft rights expired yesterday.

So like, he turned pro early without the team that drafted him, so Ottawa gets to retain his rights longer? Like a defected player..?

Still don't get why this wouldn't apply to Perbix as well then since he only has 1 less GP over his NCAA career than Janicke and is 3 months older.

The CBA rule focuses on when the player will actually graduate, not the # of NCAA games they play, or even # of years in college. Most likely Perbix has not graduated and isn’t within 5% of credits towards graduation. Whereas Janicke earned his undergrad degree or is within 5% of qualifying to graduate.

It’s not that difficult to spend four years full time in college and not graduate, especially if you change your major or take classes that don’t contribute towards your degree along the way.

Snippet from the CBA, I highlighted a few parts.

Yeah, I think that may be the situation. I don’t think there is an actual NHL/AHL Transfer Agreement where NHL teams are free to sign any AHL player with a pre-agreed transfer fee going to the AHL team. It’s not unusual to see AHL players signed to NHL contracts, but I believe the AHL team still has to agree to mutually terminate the player’s AHL contract to allow the NHL contract signing.

If there is no AHL/NHL transfer agreement as I suspect, then Tychonick signing in the AHL is treated the same as if he signed in the KHL. His draft rights would be held indefinitely by OTT as a “defected player”.

The only name on your list that is not on CapFriendly is Harrison Blaisdell. Is he a UFA or it's a mistake on the list ?

Capfriendly has Blaisdell as 2024 Aug 15th. Given all the other updates CF issued today I’d assume that’s accurate, or at least until we hear otherwise. :)
