Except they won't both leave the Bay area. Klay is a lifer, and KD wants to explore other markets. The smartest way to proceed is to sign KD and have him sit out the season for another tank year, then use the other max cap space to absorb other team bad expiring contracts and collect draft picks. Then we have Barett, Mitch, DSJ, Knox, KD, lotto pick, plus whatever other pick we get and an open max slot

This is easily the correct move too. At this point, there is no conceivable way the Knicks are good next season. You get two of the best scorer/defending combos in the league and you pair that with multiple lottery picks.

That being said, Klay Thompson is not going to come anywhere near the Knicks. He's in Golden State until he's an old man.

Durant has a player option for next season at $30 mill+. I'd be shocked if he doesn't exercise it. Can't see anyone offering a max.

Post-ACL Klay and post-achilles tear Durant? What could possibly go wrong with the New York Knicks making such a move?

Ha yeah. Thompson isn't leaving the west coast anyway.

I'm warming to the idea of just punting next season. There isn't really a path to being good next season that I like.

Unless they’re getting Kawhi, just try to stay the course and accumulate assets. Let Kyrie go to Brooklyn, let KD take the $32M option in GS, don’t try to trade for AD, etc. AD alone isn’t doing anything for this team, especially considering the best pieces will be moved for him.

Agree with all of this.

Kawhi is the only win now move I entertain.

Otherwise, stay put.

Kawhi would need to be delusional to leave Toronto.
Max deal plus the billion you will make in your lifetime winning in Toronto
He won in San Antonio and now in Toronto. There are only 2 players who won rings with more than 2 teams and IMO is one reason why James left the Cavs. That might be a legacy that Kawhi is interested in (though that doesn't mean he'd pick the Knicks). He doesn't owe Toronto anything.

Lakers have 32mil in cap space, they are your 2020 NBA Champions.

Compare that with Knicks who sat around making bad trades, bad signings and bad picks.

Think both did well, sounds like Pels could move the 4 pick right away.

Lakers have to go for it with Lebron, but also get a guy who could be there for 8-10 years.

No clue why the Pelicans would move out of the 4 spot unless they plan on competing next season and are going to get a star player type in return.

Knicks should be all over that pick. See what they want. Dallas picks should be on the table.

Pretty funny that the Pelicans basically have the Lakers team they drafted. Randle is there, is a free agent, but he could re-sign.
