I'm sure they have an extension in place but it'd be hysterical if AD left after next season.

He'll play out the year and then sign an extension. It's more financially beneficial for him.

I only see the Durant contract hurting the Knicks if he become totally useless AND one of Barrett/Knox/Robinson become franchise players and they won't be able to supplement them through free agency due to KD's contact.

What are the chances of one of those three becoming a franchise player? I think it's quite slim. If they work out, I think at best we're looking at a second option/s on a championship team. And if that's the case, you don't need much in free agency anyway.
Knox upside has been compared to Tobias Harris. Who's a good player but not a franchise changer.
It's not like the Knicks have a history of attracting game changing free agents.

And I don't think Durant suddenly turns into a pumpkin. If he's 80-85% of the player he once was, that's still a very good player. No longer top 5 but, top 15/20 in the current NBA.
Which is why you have GMs saying they would still offer him the max.

That is quite optimistic. Boogie had the same injury and is not even half the player he was before.

He really doesn't seem like a top prospect to me. High usage rate, chucker, and disappeared when Zion went out vs UNC. Only positve is he started to pass a bit towaeds the end of the season, but he seems like a top 5 pick in a weak draft rather than a homerun prospect. Best case scenario is he becomes Derozan. Knicks are 3 years away from being 3 years away it seems.

He’s only 19. The physical tools he has at his age are elite and still has plenty of room to develop. It’s a no brainer pick for the Knicks.

Knicks are in similar position as the Rangers as they get Hughes or Kakko which basically is whoever Debbies don't take. Knicks take whoever falls to them...Morant or Barettt...nice spot to be in.

After thinking long and hard about this despite how tempting it might be sign Durant for a max contract, my thoughts are the Knicks should not go after him. A player even as good as Durant is coming off a torn Achilles which just might be THE hardest injury to come back with in any sport for any athlete, is not worth the risk IMO especially at the age of 32...sorry but I'm not going there.

I think we should save our money and simply go with the kids, likely be in another lottery situation and than next year go for the gusto instead of this year. Pretty simple in my mind as we've sucked for so long...what's another year of suckiness...right?.

Instead we simply hope the Knox's,Robinsons, Trier's, Mudiay's, Franky's and either Barrett or Morant, just like this past year when the hockey gods finally smiled upon the Rangers and gave us the #2 overall and we'll get likely Kakko or Hughes, maybe just maybe the basketball gods will smile upon the Knicks for the first time in forever and we'll get a primo lottery pick and a few uber FA's will be available.

I wondered if this was the plan. Get the Duke boys together so that they create their own home base. Obliviates NO's issues about being a small market all in one fell swoop. They become the SA of the 2020s. Smart. Let's see if they can pull it off...
If they can pull it off, I’ll gladly take Morant. Although I’ve really started to like Barrett more and more as I’ve thought more about the pick. I don’t think he’ll be a perennial all-star, but I think he can be a really athletic, useful scoring forward.

The Knicks issue main, to me, goes beyond the talent available. They still haven’t shown a semblance of playing a team game, and they’re going to go nowhere if they keep running iso-heavy offenses.

He had 33 pts and 13 rebounds the game Zion got injured. They lost obviously, but he definitely didn't disappear.

Overall, in the 6 games without Zion, he went:

26.2 PPG, 49% shooting. 8.2 RPG and 5.2 APG.

He was also the undisputed preseason #1 pick. Before Zion broke out. While I'd obviously love Zion, this wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

The kid is good. Damn good.

Listened to Simmons and Rusillo's latest this morning. IN which they both say they heard the plan was actually Durant and Kyrie to Brooklyn. Which exploded with the injury.

But that explained the Kyrie to BK suddenly heating up weeks ago, and then all of the sudden the Celtcis making a last minute push for Kyrie (after Durant injury), and articles coming out with the Nets suddenly questioning Kyrie.

If true, terrifying as a Knicks fan.

Sounds like the Nets are getting cold feet about Kyrie. This news is coming from the Nets camp. Hmm. Guys like Woj made it sound like a done deal weeks ago.

I'm guessing one these things is going on:

1. Kyrie despite all the reports, was never going to the Nets.
2. Kyrie was going to the Nets but has once again changed his mind about a team. (with these recent reports, Nets trying to possibly save face)
3. The Nets are getting a sense that no other big star will be joining Kyrie in Brooklyn. And Kyrie by himself is not appealing.

Woj was on TV some time in the last 48 hours saying the plan was always Irving and KD, and if it's just Irving, it's by no means the done deal it was originally reported.

We shall see. One thing I've learned as a Nets fan: you can never anticipate what Sean Marks will do next. The man is a brilliant GM.
