Not just Woj, but just about every rebutable reporter had Irving to the Nets. Even by himself.

Something changed.

And I never took Durant to the Nets seriously. If you followed all the down low sources (friends of Durant even Warrior people and the rest of his camp and that snarky comment by Rich Kleiman that he deleted)/reading the tea leaves, he was/is not headed to the Nets.

I do believe Kyrie has been trying to convince him to go though.

To your point:

Idk what the Knicks are doing. But they better not galaxy brain this.

Only thing I can think of is they don't like Morant. So if Memphis or someone else via trade takes Barrett, they're prepared to move down in the draft or go outside the box at 3.

I know this is boring and shit and I'd love for it to go another way but we need to simply draft Barett or Morant...whoever falls to us....either/or would work just fine for the rebuild and than sit tight this summer and just play the kids next year.

I wish I could want us to sign Durant even tho he'll miss next season but I can't do it. Said it before and say it again....achilles tears are THE worst injury to come back from in all of sports. You know what's 2nd worst? A patella tendon tear like the one Boogie got and we all see how he's just a shell of the player he once was.

I'm afraid that will be the plight of Durant. Sure he'll likely be fine and likely score 20+ points a game and do his thing. But we wouldn't be paying him to just do his thing. We would be paying him to be the messiah and bring on some of his apostle buddies. And I just don't see it turning out well and we'd be stuck in pergatory again.

Now if these kids of ours like Knox, Robinson, Smith, Trier and now Barett develop like we hope, than we'd have a foundation to build upon. Once that is done, than we pounce and try and lure a Kawai or a Giannis if he ever became available to come to MSG as we'd be much more appealing than.

So my prescription for the Knicks is to take Barrett tonight, sit back and develop the kids....done!

Knicks will still have a ton of cap space to use.

Yes exactly...no reason to just spend it on players who aren't worth it just because your grandiose plans didn't come to fruition and you feel like you have a hole in your wallet. Simply hold on to the majority of the money you have, you buy a few cheapo FA's who can maybe help out and you wait to next year to break out the wallet.

Seems pretty simple and I'm betting that most Knick fans agree with this thought process as well to sit tight and develop the kids. I will say there are a fairly loud group of Knick fans who still want to bring Durant in which just doesn't make sense to me but hey they are entitled to their opinions.

You can develop the kids and still sign Durant. He's got a whole year to heal. Let him do that. Youngsters progress. Another lotto pick next season and Durant returning. See who is available next offseason as a max salary player.

If Durant doesn't want to do that, I'm all for getting projects as younger players or exploring the RFA market, like a D'Angelo Russell if Kyrie does go to the Nets.

The Durant timeline to contender status is 2 seasons, the build through the draft is likely a 4+ year project to get there.
