The Knicks have to ask themselves, is Zion Williamson ever going to be as good as Davis?
If you/they don't think so, you make that trade.

Picks 2-5 are a no brainer.

Thats not the question to ask at all.

What matters is what gives you the best overall roster. AD is a great player. But getting him and KD and Kyrie gives you those 3, whomever isn't traded, and a G league roster. That team would fall off a cliff in talent after 3-4 guys. See the Sixers this year.

Does Zion on a rookie deal, plus your max guys plus whatever space is left give you the chance to build a better roster to compete with?

That's the question.

not sure if busting on the draft getting #5 is bad or good to get KD to sign. Does he see that as a fail making it harder for him to get to the finals with the Knicks or does it make him more likely to sign to lift up the team that will be reeling from burning a whole season and getting an ordinary player for all that trouble

I think it's pretty much in the bag KD is coming to the Knicks. Just have to play out the rest of the season. Whether they get #1 or 2-5, he'll be here. He wants NYC, which is something LeBron was not about. He's going to have a lot of say in the roster too. This is going to be more like Lebron going back to Cleveland where he was consulted quite a bit on roster moves.

Kyrie is someone I see as less of a guarantee, but they will get someone else with him. Kemba or Jimmy Butler would be my guesses if Irving is a no, but I'd still say it's 75/25 Kyrie is a Knick. Too much smoke for there to be no fire.

One thing about both of these players: fans better be prepared for exactly what happened this season to be a thing in 3 years. They will get 3+1s with player opt outs. In year 3, the rumors are going to swirl again and I'd all but bet they leave unless they are extremely close to a title OR if they both fall off the face of the earth and are bad. With the Knicks, option two is something that could totally happen.

you guys, today is the first time i've even thought about basketball in like 20 years, and out of nowhere my mom sends me a picture from when I was a little kid and in the picture i'm wearing a Knicks jersey. Its a sign.

I don't follow college basketball but looking at past draft results it seems there are usually good players taken later in the 1st and the best players aren't usually the top pick. Other than the media hype why does everyone think Zion will be the best player in the draft?

Because he's LeBron like

I never heard that comparison but OK.

There is a 1/8 chance that NY Phoenix and Cleveland will wind up with the top 3 picks.

G league roster? No, the Knicks will end up getting quality vets taking less money for a ring.

Robinson/Jordan
Davis
Durant
Dotson/Ntilikina
Irving

No one in the East is beating that team.

Depth is slightly overrated. Look at the Celtics/Sixers. You need multiple stars to win it all in the NBA.
As good as Ben Simmons is, he's not Durant or Kawhi.

Need a team that can shoot. Zion can't shoot. It's not a guarantee that he learns.
I have questions about his game. Will he be able to dominate grown men down low? Many say no.

I know I'm omitting some context but given the nature of the discussion I think I need to point out that Simmons was #1 while KD was #2 and Kawhi a distant #15. So despite what I said (and I agree with you in general) I just don't like the trade if we give up the top pick.

Edit: I guess it's kind of like finally getting the opportunity to draft a prospect like Kakko and then the Oilers offer to trade McDavid for Kakko, Chytil Shesty Kravstov and a few other players. Probably should do it but....

You don’t build teams in the NBA like you do in other sports. If Durant is the foregone conclusion he’s being made out to be, you’ve got a 3-4 year window. Adding Davis to Durant and whoever else he chooses as his running mate makes your chances that much better.

14% is a brutal percentage for the worst team. Someone thought that made sense?

What are the odds the Knicks end up with the 5th pick?

After bad looks with owners (Mark Cuban) admitting to tanking and many teams doing it due to lack of ability to compete, the NBA took drastic measures to discourage tanking. And here were are with like a .000001% chance for 1 OA

I still feel that tanking is over emphasized as a problem in sports. All of them.

Only like 10 teams have won a NBA championship since 1980. Tanking can't be that beneficial lol
