I guess the NBA draft is a crapshoot, but I struggle to see how turning the #11 pick into 3 future picks that will probably end up somewhere in the 18-28 range is a win. Is pick #18 and #25 (the Bucks 1st rounder) really going to get the Jazz to bite on moving Mitchell? It doesn't seem to me like teams trade superstars for a bunch of late 1sts?

And maybe one could say, well, they didn't trade any of the kids... but they kept Thibs, who has a proven track record of not playing the kids and leaning hard on vets?

I suppose it's better for a front office to be patient than impulsive, but man, I'm going to have a really hard time caring at all about this Knicks season if they basically just run it back with the same team. I don't know a ton about Brunson but I don't see any way he brings the Knicks into the top 4 in the East.

(i do like the Duke player they drafted in the 2nd)

I'm not particularly a fan of what happened yesterday, but I can at least see what they were trying to do. They obviously had Ivey as their primary target and did everything within reason to try to acquire him from Detroit. The OKC trade gives them 3 first next year with varying probabilities of conferring, but I also find it hard to believe that those teams are all going to be non-playoff the next 5 years with how their rosters are designed.

The Knicks now have more assets and are opening up cap space to make a larger move. If this is all to throw the bag at Jalen Brunson, it's gonna be pretty stupid, but I'm also fine with trying to make a larger move for Dejounte Murray if the Spurs are really willing to trade him. Otherwise, just sit on the assets and keep trying to build patients. They have decent pieces for their young core.

If the Knicks don't deal Randle this summer, it'll be a calamity of epic proportions. He's a malcontent and is bringing a bad aura. This is RJ's team now.
I've been wanting to do something around randle + for Wiseman + from SF
Lots of room for continued improvement elsewhere also, but we need stud pivot(s). I like Noel, and Mitch R not too bad, but I view him as more of an agile PF than a real C.

Just when I thought the Knicks were going to continue to build from within they start clearing space again for a star that probably doesn’t want to be here so they throw money at a mediocre player. Always chasing other teams players.
Hopefully they will continue to build a young core and minimize vets, whether by draft or strategic moves/signings.

Bottom line is not lot of assets, so adding assets may have been the right move, depending on what else was actually available.

If the Knicks stopped at three 1st for the #11, I think that would have been fine.
#13, four 2nds just to shed Walker's contract for one year and a Bucks pick? pretty bad.
The Bucks will most likely be a pick in the high 20s. So if look at it like we traded a few 2nds to move it up then it's #13 + leftover 2nds to move a contract for one year. Watch the Knicks use that cap to sign an insignificant player.

This team has been in the same perpetual cycle of rebuilding and trying to win at the same time for a decade. It’s the same shit every year.

They’re never fully committed to anybting. They haven’t landed a big UFA in decades but still keep acting like it’s gonna happen.

Could have been rebuilding through the draft for the past few years. Instead we’re flipping picks and trading firsts for Cam Reddish while also overpaying 5 different vets last summer. It’s horrible.

It'd be nice if the Knicks could go full rebuild, but I stopped getting mad about that over a decade ago now ...*sigh*

On the bright side, it could be fun to see what the kids look like with competent PG play; which might also help out some trade values by the deadline / next offseason.

So are we thinking the FO keeps their powder dry until seeing how having a capable PG affects things, and rolls into the season with:

Brunson | Rose | McBride
Grimes* | Quickley*
Barrett | Fournier* | Reddish
Randle | Toppin
Robinson | Sims | Gibson

...or are they going to shoot for a second "big" move using Fournier / Randle & some of those future picks we've been collecting? Murray? Mitchell?

The knicks finally look like they are going the right direction and then they go batshit stupid all over again. I have no clue what direction they are going or what kind of plan they have

It sounds like they’re going all in on Brunson. My buddy whose a way bigger basketball fan than me says that’s not a bad singing for the Knicks if they can get him. They haven’t had a competent PG in years, so we’ll see.

They didn’t really give up much here, Pistons get their own second round pick back, which is probably in that 31-40 range, the Heat pick is top 55 protected, who cares giving up a pick that either won’t even be sent to Detroit or be a pick from 56-60.

The Knicks having to say overpay for a non super star is hilarious

That contract is going to be like Randle’s, Knicks fans talk themselves into Brunson being the real deal and then a year later they’re desperate to move it

The cycle never ends

My cousin shot me a text a bit ago saying he's essentially fed up and that Knicks are giving him a big major headache. Saying he's gonna go into sports management, become a millionaire, and buy them off of sorry ass Dolan lol

This is what happens when you go to the altar for these big time players. You're subject to losing them as quickly as you got them.

Nets destroyed their entire future for Durant, Kyrie, and Harden. Guess who loves this? The Rockets love this. They have a bunch of Nets picks. 2023 they have the right to swap. 2024 they have the Nets pick outright unprotected. If the Nets don't reload and at least be decent in 2024, Houston will be getting a top 10 pick.
