Mitchell is a very good player - weak on defense - and a Met fan. He was taken 4 picks after Frank and DSJ. So while there is occasionally some value in picks outside the top 2-3, the knicks never seem to find it.

Right now it doesn't seem like the Knicks can compete with the Nets sixers or celtics so I'd say they are a bubble team and the value of the draft picks are around mid 1st.. Can Mitchell put us over one or more of the other teams? I'm not sure. How much does adding Brunson change things? We'd need to be a lot better with both for it to be worthwhile. I'd make a trade because I see that as the only way to get players of that calliber and it's not like we're trading 2 lottery picks for Eddy Curry.

Would have been funny if the Knicks traded Obi while he was at Citifield though.

I’m not sure what the Knicks are doing

Frankly even if they made this deal they wouldn’t be a championship contender but I really don’t understand the goal.

Only upside here is that they’ll probably be mediocre again next season and that will hopefully lead to Thibodeau being fired.

Never going to win anything with that guy as the coach

The media was gonna kill the Knicks regardless of whether they got Spider or not. The reaction was very predictable. If the Knicks got him he’s a small, offense only guard who doesn’t play defense, and if another team got him it’s a risk but you’re getting a star.

The one thing I like about the Knicks if they’re sticking to their guns, building through the draft, and building a good core so when a star is available this will be a destination. My biggest fear it’s Thibs. If he doesn’t like playing youth then this isn’t the coach for this team.

I'm weirdly excited for this season. We seem fated for the play-in & hoping to snag a 2nd/3rd tier star without dipping too deeply into our asset pool...but if preseason was a harbinger of what's to come, watching this team with Brunson at the helm should be a lot more enjoyable.

Randle got his in the flow of the offense, Brunson kept the offense moving much more fluidly even when he himself wasn't cooking, and RJ looks ready to take over as our #1 option this season. Hartenstein looks like a nice foil to Mitch at the 5.

Quickley looked like he's picking up where he left off to finish last season, I really like Sims...and I continue to pray that Deuce McBride can someday become a good enough shooter to be an NBA regular; his defensive energy is just too much fun.

Pity Obi only had just the one big game and kinda laid duds in the others, but you could still see how much his handle has improved...and even when his shot isn't falling he's elite around the rim.

Would've liked Grimes to be fit and starting, but I also feel like unless Grimes was really cooking & Evan was particularly awful, Fournier would've gotten the first crack at the starting gig anyways...this way we don't have to be as mad about it.

Mildly disappointed that Reddish looks like everything I feared he'd be when we made the trade. It's what I expected but he started to sucker me into hoping he could at least become a bench defender because once he got into the rotation last year, he was at least focused on that end...whereas this preseason he just looked drunk all over the court.

4 -1st rd picks 2023 not too shabby

Unlikely for all of them to convert this year. We'll have our pick and almost certainly Dallas's...as it is only protected 1-10, 1-10, 1-10.

But Washington's pick is protected 1-14, 1-12, 1-10, 1-8. So it's unlikely that we receive it this year unless you're much higher on the Wizards than I am. Though sometime between 2024 & 2026 they should convey a lottery pick.

While Detroit's is protected 1-18, 1-18, 1-13, 1-11, 1-9. So Cade & Ivey would have to lead them to a massive leap for it to convert before 2025-2027.

Ultimately I expect us to trade most of those picks anyway, whether trading back for more future capital or in a bigger trade to bring in a tier 2/3 star (someone like Lavine).

If we do it on draft night 2023...so that we'll technically have drafted someone in 2023...we could offer (up to) 5 FRPs for that tier 2/3 guy; our '23 FRP, the Mavs FRP, our '25 FRP, the DET FRP, & the WSH FRP; with Rose & Fournier as salary filler. Which would leave us heading into next season with something like:

Brunson | Quickley | McBride
Lavine | Grimes | Keels
Barrett | Reddish/DJJ | Hunt
Randle | Toppin
Robinson | Hartenstein | Sims

...without tying our hands should we get the chance to upgrade Randle / Lavine / Brunson / Barrett to a Zion / Booker / Luka / Cade / Tatum. As, having drafted someone in '23 & having the Bucks pick to draft someone in '25, we could still offer our '24, '26, '28, '30 FRPs + swaps + Mitch/Hart + prospect(s), if/when any of those tier 1 kids ever asks out from their current teams.

Though I do wish our offense was more modern & creative; and he was a little more willing to stick with experiments, even if the immediately results are highly variable...i.e. Toppin-Randle lineups need to get more burn, even though they will sometimes get absolutely wrecked.

And Thibs certainly falls more in the 'build kids up patiently in roles that they can excel in as part of a successful whole' camp than the 'throw all the kids out there to tank & live with whatever comes developmentally' camp that is more popular on NBA-twitter.

I'm not too worried about Thibs giving the kids minutes.
- He has been starting RJ & Mitch since day one.
- He gave IQ a smidge under 20mpg as a rookie and increased that by almost 4mpg last season; despite Quickley's sophomore slump.
- Grimes was in the starting lineup before he got hurt last year; having won Thibs' trust as a rookie.
- Reddish had worked his way up to 20mpg in 3 of his last 4 games before getting hurt.
- He has had no qualms giving Sims PT when Mitch or Nerlens was out.
- He gave Knox a chance, but Kevin played his way out of the rotation.
- And even Obi saw his PT jump by 6mpg in year two, after having spent most of his rookie season looking like a deer in the headlights. If his PT takes another 3-5mpg jump this season, he'll be right in that 20-22mpg range that he looks ready for.

The Good: Brunson ran the offense well despite his own struggles; Julius looks soooooo much better with someone competent running the offense for him; Reddish had his big game of the month; Hartenstein stepped in for Mitch wonderfully; Thibs going small after Randle fouled out...Ja is fun tv, even when doing it for the other team.

The Bad: Brunson really fought his scoring touch all game; Rose was forcing things too much; Mitch getting into foul trouble as quickly as he did; while Obi & IQ were just off last night

The Ugly: RJ had an absolute 'mare; I think he puts too much pressure on himself to "match Ja" when we play Memphis.

One of those "throw the tape out & move on" games for Barrett.

Kids responded in a big way after a rough game 1:
Barrett 18pts (8-15), 3rebs, 4asts, 1 block, 1TO, 28min (lead team)
Toppin 16pts (7-12), 4rebs, 3asts, 1 block, 21min
Quickley 20pts (8-14), 7rebs, 7asts, 3TO, 27min

Plus:
- Julius was efficient again in his 25 minutes; 15pts (5-12), 6 rebs.
- Brunson ran the team well again and had his shot going today; 17pts (6-11), 2rebs, 6asts, 1stl
- Mitch had a big first half after his foul problems in game one; 8pts (3-3), 5rebs, 1ast, 2 blocks, 2TOs
- Rose was cooking; 13pts (4-6) 3rebs; 6asts, 2TOs
- Reddish tried hard on D, even though he was very up-and-down offensively
- Hartenstein was very solid; 6pts (2-4), 11rebs, 2stls, 1 block, 1TO
- and we got some Sims n Deuce minutes.

So what's not to like? Now we just need to swap Fournier with Grimes when he's fit again and I'd be perfectly happy with the rotation.

It's amazing what having any semblance of a competent point guard can do for the Knicks. That was a great win last night

JB is already the best PG we've had since Starbury...and based on the early returns, I think I'd prefer Brunson as a PG.

Good job taking care of business, feel like they lost two awful home games early last season to the Magic.

Black and Orthadox Jewish communities in Brooklyn do not get along well with each other. As a bystander who works and has to deal, neither is a saint in the whole thing.
Driving down Eastern Pky during the recent holidays watching groups of black folks harassing and screaming F you jew and starting fights.
Our world has learned nothing. Its sad and pathetic

Their owner is such a loser if they don't cut Kyrie. He claims to care about social justice but not when it comes to Kyrie or China apparently.
