That deadline was hilarious looking back. I was a high school kid at the time and knew nothing about anything outside the Canucks so I was just so stoked at lunch break about the simple act of acquiring new players. Weinrich, Carney, Noronen: they may as well have been superstars as far as I was considered.

It only took until a few seasons later to realize the hilarity of Nonis' pro scouting and signings. Brad Isbister. Byron Ritchie. Bryan Smolinski (if I remember correctly this wasn't actually a bad acquisition for depth), Jan Bulis, Marc Chouinard, etc. etc. Brutal. None of them were in the league by just a few seasons later.
