Peter Schaefer, the man with the most ****ed up curve on his stick I can remember.
It's not even that he was
that obscure a player the first time around. It was that absolutely bizarre stint at the end of his career where he came back from disappearing in Europe to play like 15 games or whatever, after we'd brought him in as a "camp body" to satisfy that "NHL vets" rule. Then he somehow actually made the team out of camp. One of the weirder "homecoming-ish" stories.
Oreo is such a good one. Just makes me smile and kinda giggle every time i'm reminded he existed as a Canuck. The absolute scale of the lore around his weighlifting prowess and how good he could be was funny at the time, but it's so much more hilarious looking back now.
Not sure i'll ever be able to forget him. He's one of the most memorable "forgettable" players...just for the sheer hype of how good he
could be. And the degree of fizzle on that hype.
Mario Bliznak
Mathieu Schneider (best smile the Canucks ever had)
Sergei Shirokov - legend
Don't think i'll soon forget the Mathieu Schneider fiasco. The way that blew up was pretty memorable.
And Shirokov will never be forgotten. One of the all-time Preseason Greats.
