Muzzin taketh, and he giveth away. Kings lose to FLA 3-2

I'll probably be in big dog poo for suggesting this but, after hearing almost every player who has worn a Kings' jersey this winter from Richards on down being chastised and blamed for this team's failures, has anyone considered that maybe, just maybe, Darryl Sutter has worn out his welcome to the point that he's a major contributor to the team's current lack of success. And now that Mike Richards (but not his contract) is out of the picture, has Justin Williams become the new Richards, like a phoenix rising from the ashes?

How does a guy like Sutter lose the room when all he has to do is show them the last three seasons for them to know his methods work?

I don't think so. The team has had huge success under Sutter. In my opinion its personnel.

Ouch.....That's McDavid territory.

It really is.

Herb Brooks said "The name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the name on the back"

Well in this case I take a bit of a different approach. I think a lot of the more optimistic people on this board were a little guilty of looking strictly at the Kings logo and thinking they would just flip a switch or turn it on, the reality is the names on the back are a lot different than in years past. Mitchell is gone, Richards was here in body but gone in spirit, Scuderi is gone, Voynov is gone. Those are some big shoes to fill and the Kings just didn't have the horses to fill them, whether from the bottom lines stepping up or kids from Manchester.

I think only now are people really seeing that this is a really flawed roster that isn't getting any younger and a GM that really has backed himself into a corner with some of his perplexing moves. Dean has won 2 Cups, he deserves a chance to fix this mess but boy he didn't do himself any favors with his cap situation. We are going to lose some good players and likely have no money to replace them. Unless the salary cap drastically goes up in the next few years the Kings are going to need Toffoli and Pearson like contributions from youngsters to win another cup.

The Matt Greene extension was an obvious mistake. It was a mistake this summer and it's still a mistake. We all said it from the beginning. It was like re-signing Penner when we should've clearly moved on. Lombardi's got some loyalty issue. He's been quiet lately, would love to see what he has to say.

5 year contract for Kopitar is just fine

10 year contract for Quick is ridiculous

and for anyone other that a true elite superstar (there might be 4 or 5 players like that in the NHL) worthy of a 10 year contract

we have one of them

his name is Doughty

Toews, Crosby, Weber, and Stamkos might be the others

i wouldn't give 10 years to Getzlaf, Perry, Price, Quick, Kopitar, P. Kane, Subban

but that's just me

Sutter is one of if not the best coach in the NHL. This IS about the players and it is time to retool with younger players and build up. And this will take a couple if not more years and in such a context, Sutter, a pure gentleman, will leave the opportunity to someone else.

One thing great about Sutter is not only can he get the best out of each player and he has brought this team to a higher level, being the main reason why we won 2 cups in the past 3 years, but you will very seldom hear him blast one of his players in public. He most probably knows the time has come for him to turn the page.

Meh, not really. The real problem is that Matt Greene is playing 2nd pairing minutes because one half of our second pair is playing in Florida and the other half is about to be deported.

I'd like to see them give O'Neill a shot on the top line. Can't be any worse than what we've seen so far. There are so many contracts on this team that might bite us in the @$$.

Does anyone know what it feels like to go on a winning streak again? It's one win then 3 losses , the 3-5 more road losses, then win one...

Kings now on pace for 29 road points total for the season with 18 road games left. Even if they swept the rest of their home games (Which will NEVER happen considering the opposition) they'd end up with 92 points. 92 was enough last season, but not this season.

Current 8th seed (VAN) is on pace for 99 points.

If the Kings don't literally go on an 8 or 10 game winning streak starting Saturday, Dean should begin his offseason on February 25th.

i don't think DL had 3rd pairing in mind when he signed Greene with a 2.5million/per contract

that came from pure love, and desperation after loosing Mitchell

no other options were available and he knew that Doughty Voynov Muzzin Martinez was thin

you don't pay 2.5million for a guy that should be playing 10-12mins unless you have other plans

I think it has more to do that our second defense pairing from last season is gone for this season.

Yeah and then you try to give someone like Alec Martinez and Robyn Regehr the minutes that belonged to Voynov-Mitchell, and it just doesn't work out the same. I guess that's what happens when you run into cap issues/one of your players suddenly decides to beat his wife.

Lombardi's first round drafting hasn't been the great. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Derek Forbort's slow development has really daunted this organization. He's someone I'm sure the Kings would love to have up here instead of Jamie McBain and Brayden McNabb. Sheesh, he's entering bust territory.

What could Sutter possibly be saying to Muzzin for him to make that pass he made? What's he saying to Doughty to make him stand there on the 3rd goal? Fine, Doughty is playing a ton. Well, Doughty keeps saying he loves playing a ton. Doughty wants to win a Norris. Where's playoff Doughty when the Kings are essentially playing playoff games?

Coaches are the easiest person to blame, because they are a singular figure. It's all about the players executing on the ice. That's all it ever is. A coach is only as good as the players he has access to.

Detroit Red Wings - 23 consecutive years of making the playoffs - All the more remarkable.

That really is remarkable when you're a fan of the sport and realize just how tough it is to make the playoffs in any given year, esp when you get key players injured. 23 years...is almost unreal.
Last year I really admired how Babcock got so much out of that team, esp the kids that got called upwhen the Wings had all those injuries. He's a terrific coach and I'll bet he gets a huge salary from whatever team he signs with next year.
and it makes you appreciate how good the Wings scouts have been over the years.
