I am not sold on us making post-season just... yet.

But it looks as Dave Lowry figured out how to use this team properly.

If we do make it past the post-season I think it's a first-round exit if I'm being honest.

Patrik Laine has 27 points in 27 games this year. Both teams did VERY well in this deal.

Could be win , win for both teams, but if I had my choice I'd take a big rugged center who plays a 2 way game, and has a decent set of scoring hands. Laine turns over the puck a lot, and is a bit of a soft player compared to PLD. Laine also gets most of his goals on the power play, but they all still count. I also think PLD is a faster skater. Add it all up. Laine does have the better shot though, and that can't be disputed.

In this case, of this trade, and circumstances involved, maybe both teams felt like it was a win / win for both teams, as you say. Both teams were going to lose these players anyways. Both did well.

I'm not gonna dunk on you for making very statistically sound statements. The only thing I'll keep putting my feet in the sand about, is that our chances are both non-zero and non-trivial. We've seen 15th seed cup winners and a 16th seed make it as far as tied 2-2 in the cup finals. This is not the Titanic; there is no benefit to beating the crowd to the lifeboats ;)

@GNP i don't have a snowblower, i have a shovel, broken back and a tunnel for a driveway.:mad: :laugh:

That's what I thought, just having a bit of fun with you. You just have to look at the positives from all this snow, and that is you'll be in way better shape come the summer, and win the St.B Club Championship with those gorgeous new gloss black Titleist clubs you've just bought. You'll be a force to be reckoned with out there this year.

I was expecting a blowout after hellybad started the game but the boys bailed him out and this is more like the team I was expecting to see. It helps that Trashville is built in thuggery and tomfoolery but the jets skill rose to the top and the captainfound the fountain of youth.
For a few minutes I thought this is a playoff team but reality sunk in after looking at the standings to see they are 4 spots out of the last wc spot.
Oh well nice to see a clean win for the 2nd time in 3 games

Hey, isn't that Blake Wheeler single-handedly stopping the tank? Nice comeback boys!

lmao! What a win, frustrating start to the season. But I can see the fight in this team. Lets hope they can sustain this level of play from the last 4 games!

Yup, Blue Jackets got their scoring winger and the Jets got a big and physical play driving 1C who's hard to play against.

I don't see why we always have to try to determine winners and losers of trades. Both teams got what they were looking for.

Because that's what separates the best GMs from the merely good ones.

I completely understand the idea that players have objective values and that teams have synergistic values (i.e. Laine means more to CBJ than to us; PLD means more to us than them). But if I may use Scrabble as an example: a V is worth 4 points and a U is worth 1 point, but a rack with V+U+5 random tiles is FAR below average, because those letters (V and U) have shit synergy. But if Chevy inks a trade where he dumps the V and a 2nd round pick and gets a Q back, the other team might well have "won" because they improved their synergy, but we now have a Q and a U and as you can imagine, that's fat bank.

The best poker players I've ever met in real life cash money games have two traits: they're about even money in small pots, and they win far more than their share of big pots. Chevy is the GM version of that, and it's not even close.

The ONLY goalie you can change their name to put "bad" in would be Pavelec. Connor Hellebuyck is the BEST goalie in Winnipeg Jets history (1972-Present).

We've played 3 very pivotal in-division games, two under very adverse conditions. We went 2-0-1. The two games we dominated, we got 4 clean; the game we were dominated, we gutted out a point.

It's still a long road, but be honest: if I told you 3 games ago that we'd be 2-0-1 in these games, you'd be over the moon. We all would have :)

I love Laine and I'm happy he's doing well. Dubois has been so, so good for us this season though. Night and day from what he was last year.

It's actually good for us if the teams we trade with get nearly as much back as they gave, because it means we'll be likelier to get trades down the road. As the line goes, Chevy could either shear the sheep many times or skin them once. I know what I want ;)

You've heard the phrase "generational talent"? I did a quick and dirty analysis on Pavelec's career. For all the games he played, for all the shots he faced, if it was "all luck", then the chance of a goalie being as bad as Pavelec was under 2%. This is what I like to call a "degenerational talent" :P

Had to eat my hat after those first two goals, I sensed a long night. Our skill came through though, Helle steadied the ship, Scheifele came through with some high end skill and so did Wheeler. They put up the points when the team needed them to.
Thought the entire team dug deep and scrapped it out against a team determined to bully them. They didn’t back down and Nashvilles faux tough guy style burned them in the end. There’s a difference between playing tough and just playing stupid. They were definitely the latter and I’m glad the Jets made them pay where it mattered most.
Lots of good play by a number of players tonight and some not so good play at times by a number of players. Got it done though, not all going to be masterpieces. 3 of 4 on the road in the Central and 7 of 8 agains the Central since the break is a good start.
Satisfying win, I hate those mustard stained dickheads.

If the Objective Poster is satisfied with this victory, you gotta know the Jets played a great game. He's a tough man to please.
I am very satisfied with overall effort since allstar break...this team knows it has to go on a run to make the playoffs so we are finally seeing a sense of urgency in their play...more physical and more effort back checking. Talent wise the jets are in the same group as blues/preds/wild.... they just took too many games off and were not motivated. They are now out of necessity. Its still a big uphill climb to make the playoffs...but if they do....look out.....

if jets make the playoffs it means they went on a tear after allstar break....I would not want to face a team that was playing with playoff like intensity for 3 months.....

Just imagine if we come in on a bottom seed on a heater like that. What an edge that would be!

Alpha Lackey's Fundamental Theorem of Single Elimination Tournaments: all else being equal, in a winner-take-all tournament, you should be HAPPY to play the top seed in the first round for two reasons: #1, if you were going to win, you were very likely going to have to play them at some point anyways, and #2: if you win, well, the only thing people fear more than a giant is a giant-slayer.

I am happy with the results but have been very disappointed with the play that I checked out and am just watching for fun haha
