I find that I have a hard time staying interested in games the entire way through this year....

Quick notes:

-EP has been MUCH better lately.

-agree with Toc on the 4th line. Heinen was really noticeable and Raty and Hog played hard too. Nice line.

-Joshua looks Rusty but was so happy to see him back with Garland and Blueger.

-Lekkerimaki belongs up here.

-Soucy and Myers need to be separated. They are awful together this year.

-I am really pulling for Brannstrom. I love his break outs, his willingness to shoot and get his shots on net. He even engages physically and has been feisty. Absolutely our 3rd best d this season.

-it is absolutely ridiculous how Friedman is treated by this coaching staff. Hung around for months without playing last season and STILL re-signed here, had a nice camp, and gets to toil in te AHL while Soucy, Myers, Desharnais, Forbort and Juulsen all shit the bed nightly? We don't need FIVE f***ing big bodies. Friedman is a great passer, nice skater, and is ALWAYS engaged. He is more physical and feisty than any of those big bodies.

f***ing trade the guy. There's no reason he should be treated this way.

Move Brannstrom up with Soucy and drop Myers down to play with Friedman. I guarantee it'd be better.
friedman is on a one way and i am sure does not feel mistreated. he's also been concussed.

Isn't Friedman still hurt? Agree though, would like to see him up for a bit.

Very prescient analysis. I agree with everything, especially on Friedman. My interest didn't pique until about this time last year, but I have a new job that I love that I am pouring my soul into, and then my side hustle as a musician.

Is there somewhere I can comb through game footage, I have a very specific situation I want to present about Heinen. He's the very least of our problems but his choice of attacking is very strange.

1st period was weak/disappointing but by the same token we absolutely caved them for most of the last 40 minutes and they were probably lucky it wasn't 3-1 after the 2nd period. I don't recall a game, ever, where opposing D-pairings had so many shifts where they were caught out there for 90 seconds + and somehow we didn't burn them on it.

Brannstrom had a crazy good game after making a mistake on a 1-0 goal. Likely knows his spot is tenuous and love the way he attacked the game after a setback. Big hit, drew the penalty for the 1-1 PP goal by hustling and getting to the net, scored the 2-1 goal. Had several other good chances.

Raty probably had his best NHL game. Led the team in hits, skated well (or well for him, at least), got in a couple good offensive positions.

Lekkerimaki has shifts where he impresses and shifts where he looks not ready. To me he needs more AHL seasoning and 10 lbs of muscle and explosiveness and you can see where he would be in a good position next season.

Silovs really, really, really needed that game. About as important as one game can be for a player in this league.

Pettersson continues to compete well. Decision to pass up shooting on that one break was extremely frustrating.

Juulsen did OK after the 1-0 goal but there's one play in every game where he f***s up badly and the puck is in his net.

The one big negative in this game for me was Myers, who was just horrific with the puck on his stick. Did not look decisive or engaged. Multiple turnovers to create problems for the team. I thought Soucy actually played well and it's largely to his credit that Myers' errors didn't end up in our net.

Agree with lots. Didn’t think, even after the first, this was that impressive of a game considering just how bad Chicago is. Don’t think this game will assuage any of the current concerns. Going to have to beat some good teams to do that.

Unfortunately, Myers has regressed back to the point where we all hold out breath when he has the puck as you have no idea where it’s going to end up.

I think some of the complaints about Myers are unfair.

He had success playing a simple game last season but with the Canucks looking to play more of a transition game he's been trying to do too much with the puck. He's defending off the rush just fine and is still boxing players from the front of the net.

Soucy, on the other hand, just can't connect a pass and seems to have given up trying. It's all on Myers to facilitate zone exits from the backend and it's not going well. The overall result is that the Canucks get pinned down in their own zone when those two are on the ice. When they attempt to exit the zone, too often the puck is turned over and the play comes in the other direction.

To compound the problem, Tocchet continues to give them the lion's share of defensive zone starts. It's not fair to either player - they are not paid like top 4 defensemen and shouldn't have those expectations placed on them. You can't deploy them like the best defensive players in the league and expect the same results.

He never should have went down regardless.

Financially maybe not but I'm sure he'd like to play in the NHL. He didn't do anything to warrant being cut and watching the disaster D the Canucks have iced this year... I'd feel a bit annoyed.

I think Myers and Soucy would be better if they were just separated. It's like their confidence together as just plummeted. Like I said, put Soucy with Brannstrom and let him just keep it simple and let Brannstrom do the work offensively.

Myers needs to just focus on playing simple D again as well. I don't know who to pair him with if Friedman is hurt. Can Juulsen or Desharnais play the left side?

I'm totally fine with Soucy and Myers in the top 6 but they are struggling as a pair and they need to have their role reduced slightly. We really just need to add one more D and it balances things a lot better. Then Desharnais and Forbort can be the 7/8 and it's a lot better. Send Juulsen down.

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Brannstrom
???-Myers

Marcus Pettersson would be nice.

I'm not that far off wanting to see Elias Pettersson brought up and given a shot at that ??? spot for a couple of games.

Brannstrom only partially, minimally at fault on the first goal, he does as well as you can expect from your small puck moving bottom pair defenseman, against a big solid grown man veteran forward.
Puck doesn't go in if juulsen is playing defense and not spinning in circles leaving the far side wide open.
Swap brann and Hughes on that play and nobody cares he gets to the net, at best maybe hughes gets a better stick check on Foligno.

I think Brannstrom is in the right spot right now. If you move him up higher we're going to start to see some shine go away. We need a better 2nd pairing option right now than Soucy-Myers, and we have to do it through trade more likely than not.

Let Brannstrom keep building confidence and thriving in his current role.

Tocc does not play defensemen on their offside. I don't know why people don't get this.

If the Canucks get Pettersson from Pittsburgh I don't see a spot for both Soucy and Brannstrom.

I agree… but think the issue is for now at least we should still split Soucy and Myers, if only to get their confidence back.

Certainly not a perfect game, but they seemingly started to settle down and come on in the later half of the second.

Hughes looks fantastic out there. They need to get some depth so he's not stuck playing half the game (same with Hronek). Not quite sure if he's been coached against it, but I'd also like to see more shots on net from Hronek, given he can really shoot.

Miller is struggling and seems to be putting up at least a few errant passes a game. He's probably still playing hurt, and it's hiring the lineup with him and Boeser both injured.

Nice to see Pettersson starting to come on a bit. He still doesn't look quite right... But it's a start. Hopefully he picks it up from here.

I know everyone was saying that Juulsen picked it up after the first goal but oof...I don't like seeing him out there. He's good for at least one bad goal against a game. Branstromm settled down and at least he can get the puck out of the zone, but the bottom 4 are really going to limit this team if they can't get Soucy back on track. Desharnais is looking like a bad scouting miss so far.

Yeah for all the talk about Brannstrom on that first goal, he at least recognized the position he was in and did what he could to keep Foligno from cutting all the way across. If Juulsen does his job in front if the net, Mikheyev probably doesn't put that in.

Also I think a more confident Silovs would have gone for a poke check and possibly negated the whole chance, instead he played it rather passively and lost sight of the puck. I'm glad he ended up with a good result in this game, he needed it more than anyone.
