He'll make a great first line winger some day 🤷‍♂️

The fact that we allowed Stonehands Mikheyev of all f***ing people to score a goal, is reason enough to call this a Pyrrhic victory, at best. We are suppose to be a so-called competing team, yet we can't even beat the Chicago Bedards without sweating til the last minute?

Please for the love of GOD no more Juulsen...

Our defense beyond Hughes and Hronek is so pathetic it's not even funny anymore. Thankully Gudbrannstrom came through for us.

Way more stressful than it needed to be. Seems like right when Petey got his mojo back, half the team started gripping their sticks even tighter. Lots to unpack this game:

Soucy/Myers: After 3+ giveaways on the first shift, I tried tracking their total giveaways as the NHL stats are horrible on this. I lost track after 10+, it was horrendous. The number of shifts in the defensive zone that turned into 1 minute+ shifts because neither could deal with slight pressure from ONE forechecker was absurd. This can't continue - Hughes is having an all time season on the blueline and its effect is being completely neutered by these two's abomination of a performance this year. This is Jack Johnson levels of terrible.

Juulsen: Calmed down after the first goal, but every game he makes one absolutely bone headed mistake that ends up in the back of the net. If it weren't for Brannstrom rebounding after getting beat wide, pretty sure they also would've gotten caved in.

Petterson line: Best line tonight. Think Debrusk needs to start shooting more, and Petey as well, but the chemistry between the three was good. They had a good forecheck, and were constantly putting pressure on the other side. Sherwood really does remind me of a modern day Matt Cooke, without the cheap shots.

Miller: One good play on the powerplay, and one good shift in the third. Otherwise, thought he was lackadaisacal all night. He's clearly dealing with an injury, but you can't let that affect your mental focus with soft plays. As one of the leaders, he needs to step up and clean up some of the sloppy passes so that he can get on everyone else to do the same.

Garland line: Some good, some bad. Joshua deserves a lot of grace for coming back already. Garland has slowed down a bit since his heater to start the year, both in terms of points and chance generation.

Raty line: Heinen was good, Hoglander still makes you pull your hair out. Raty is good at faceoffs (rare for a young guy), but he needs to get faster at making decisions when the puck is on his stick. I thought I'd be more annoyed with his skating, but the lack of puck skills in tight spots with little time is what's holding him back the most right now.

Silovs: Good bounceback game. Still an adventure when any shot comes to him, but infinitely better than his previous games. Lacks real composure in his net, and makes the easy saves look way more difficult than they need to, but I liked his battle. Good game for his confidence too.

I know the team wants to wait to make a move on the blueline so they can accrue more cap space, but I don't know much longer they can continue playing like this. Brannstrom has saved their bacon this year by having at least one guy who can make a pass outside of the Hughes minutes, but it's not enough.

If Soucy/Myers were even at a 45% expected GF rate playing tougher minutes I'd be ok with waiting, but they're getting brutally caved and not really taking much of a load off in the terms of quality of competition from Hughes.

Similar to the Flames game, sloppy 1st and then the better team slowly took over. Unfortunately this was another W that wasn't all that inspiring considering the lowly competition.

Brannstrom was horrendous in the 1st period but he and the entire bottom-4 of the defense settled down afterwards. Like most bottom-pairing D-men he's not going to be perfect but he's definitely a big net positive. His size will be an issue sometimes as it was on the goal against but he plays a tougher game than someone like Debrusk who is much bigger yet can be allergic to contact at times.

Nice game for Silovs, hopefully it gives him confidence and gives the team confidence whenever they need to play in front of him going forward. Nothing amazing but solid.

Pettersson looking more and more like his old self. Actually felt he had the potential to be dangerous pretty much every time he was out on the ice which is what is expected from a player of his calibre. Still a bit tentative / definitely needs to rip it more and bobbling a few more pucks than I'd like. His line was good and a lot of credit also goes to Sherwood as well for always being a sparkplug.

Hughes will dominate this type of competition pretty much every time. It's almost easy for him and it's scary how it's pretty much expected.

Thought Garland had his weakest game in quite a while. That 3rd line didn't really have anything going all night. Joshua will need some time to get up to speed.

Heinen with a strong game after a few poor performances.

Love how Brannstrom is building his game in a Vancouver uniform. I'm sure that back in Ottawa, after getting walked on the opening goal by the Hawks, he'd have been stapled to the pine for the rest of the night.

But Tocchet, the player's coach that he is, throws him right back out there. And instead of letting his early blunder affect him, he steps up with almost 17 minutes of ice-time; a big hit and the winning goal.

He's really coming on and giving a glimmer of why he was a highly-touted first rounder.
