Once again, 5 points for a 35 year old
Don’t care about EN, he’s been on power play and a set up man for years
My point is him being on the top 5v5 line isn't where he succeeds.

Drop him Scheifele and Statsny on the 3rd line.

Put Ehlers-Copp-Perfetti on the 2nd. Gives the 3rd and 2nd equal minutes 5v5.

Lowry being on the 3rd line holds this team back. We don't have the talent for a strong top6. Spread the talent through 3 lines, and use Lowry has a shutdown line.

This team gets all of it's scoring from 1.5 lines.

At this point you shut down wheeler-scheifele and you've shut down the team.

Wheeler had a statistical correction last night, it doesn't solve this teams problem of not enough scoring.

I'm very happy Wheeler Scheifele have finally "turned it on", but it isn't enough to compensate for the fact the Lowry line doesn't score enough.

Scheifele has been a lot better since the break. The points are there but he's also playing a much sounder all around game. That was the biggest thing this team needed to happen.
This team has been a victim of a number of unpleasant things.

I'd argue they're the worst effected team by covid.

Not just because they never get to to play a regular schedule with a full line up, but because it's -30 and you can't do anything to blow off steam.

I get if you're from Winnipeg it's not an obvious issue. But having coaching issues, combined with extreme cold, injuries to your captain, unpredictable lockdowns etc. It annihilates your will to live.

I ask which team in the league suffered more than the Jets in the last 6 months? It's one thing to lose a lot and fail to meet expectations, but their big names are aging getting older and on the verge of a potential rebuild. Add to all that you play in a small market who's main benefit is the great people, whom you can no longer even see the faces of.

Obviously teams like Buffalo/Montreal got it bad, but they don't have the same kind of weather issues/limitations due to the isolation of the city/travel schedule, and their problems didn't come about all of a sudden. Who would of thought the additions of Schmidt/Dillion and the rise of Perfettit/Dubois would be followed with losing streaks?

You gotta think now that a lot of these problems are moving to the rear view mirror, the energy of the team will pick up.

They along with Edmonton, who have a lot of the same problems, I'd rate as the teams most likely to have turn around end of seasons.

By giving your best players less ice time, you are making it easier for the other team to shut them down. You've pretty much given away all your opportunities to get them into more favourable matchups and instead have increased the likelihood of the other team getting favourable matchups against us. All teams ride their best players hard especially when they need wins. If you want to balance out the ice time we need to start building early leads and then chocking out the opponent. Problem is, we don't often find ourselves in games like those.

If we had 2 lines a step above our bottom six that'd make perfect sense.

But we don't have a clear top six.

Dubois-Connor-Ehlers-Scheifele are all players that clearly belong on the top six.

Either due to age or simply a natural ceiling we have a number of players that can succeed on the top 6, but when playing with Lowry will score like they are on the 4th line.

If you have goals coming from 3 lines and your 4th is dominated by lowry there's no such thing as an unfavorable matchup, this is the point.

If Lowry's line isn't scoring, and use you the moneypuck logic of allowing Connor/Dubois to score some of the time, all you have to do is focus all of your line matchups on shutting down Chef and Wheels.

Yup, Blue Jackets got their scoring winger and the Jets got a big and physical play driving 1C who's hard to play against.

I don't see why we always have to try to determine winners and losers of trades. Both teams got what they were looking for.

Yeah good point. It's very immature that we always have to pick winners and losers from every trade. Why cant everyone just be happy for both teams?

But we totally won that trade.

Ahhh OK so you aren't insane

To be fair Ehlers being better than Connor wasn't controversial at all until Connor took a massive step this season (whereas Ehlers seemed to take a massive step a couple of seasons ago). If you asked me which of Ehlers / Perfetti / Connor would be our best winger next year, I honestly wouldn't have a clue who to pick. Nice problem to have, though.

Except is we have a very clearly defined top 6 when fully healthy. We have 2 top centers and 2 elite wingers who will pair up. PLD - Connor and Scheifele - Ehlers. The other 2 winger spots will go to some combination of Wheeler, Perfetti, Copp or Stastny. Most likely Wheeler and Perfetti to generate offense, and Copp and Stastny are the most versatile to play on the 3rd with Lowry. After that we are able to put together a 4th line who can hold their own for limited minutes. Also most teams don't try to shut down Scheifele, they try to out score him by matching strength Vs strength.

What an interesting game.

Nashville completely imploded with their over the top trying to run us out of the rink and going too far approach to this game. Late cheap shot by their Bobo and our PP wakes up and turns the lights out. Not sure what happened at the All Star game but Scheif is finally feeling it and on a scoring hot streak. That is exactly what this team needs if we want to stay relevant.

One day fighting will be out of hockey but until then once in a while you need guys to step up and full props to Lowry for filling that role for this team. I enjoy watching this team play with emotion. I know that is what coach Lowry is asking for and its hard to do it night after night in the regular season but its fun to watch when it happens.

The downside is the odds are not good for this team to make the post season, the upside is if we actually get hot enough to make the playoffs I wouldn’t want to meet “that” Jets team in the 1st round.

At least once a game? Didn’t he just shut out the Wild?
He can let in some stinkers, you watch many other goalies regularly? They do too. Helle is far from a bad goal every game.
I am not saying Helly is bad far from it just that he seems to let in goals when the team could use a big save more often over the past 2 seasons than previous years. I know the Jets give up a copious amount of high danger chances, which does not help.
I also know other goalies let in lots of goals they probably want back but really do not focus on others.

What astoundingly stupid penalties on the Reichel and Svechnikov incidents. A few too many idiots on an otherwise well balanced Predators team. Full marks to Jets PP for the win.

Jet fans deserve some good games this week at home, either some nice wins or going down swinging.

Perhaps the current government could also use their voodoo powers to declare that winter is also over? Sick of shovelling, you know?

You and me both, that snow just keeps on coming, and it's backbreaking. I just don't have the luxury like @Jets 31, to bring out a fancy new snow blower, and save those back muscles. He's a lucky man.

We're lucky; our neighbor works for the city and has one of those mini vehicular snowplows at his disposal. Suffice it to say there has been a whole lot of friendly, independant, not-at-all-quid-pro-quo gifts of bottles of liquor and homemade baking going their way. In the spirit of neighborhood love, ofc :)

@GNP i don't have a snowblower, i have a shovel, broken back and a tunnel for a driveway.:mad: :laugh:

Ok full disclosure and its a bit embarrassing.

This fall I decided to splurge and pay a snow removal company (I know the owner) $770 to remove the snow from my driveway and front step from November until the end of March. I “was” going to be traveling allot this winter for work to catch up for lost time and needed the help for my family. Usually the guy has young guys doing the heavy lifting. This season he has lost all his support staff and is out their slogging it himself with his wife at times. I have been feeling really guilty when the wife shows up because she does my front step while he snow blows and shovels the driveway and I literally hide in embarrassment/guilt while my 20 pound dog barks are her through the front window.

The only thing that helps my guilt is I shovel my mother in laws place when I am in town. There is nothing worse than the drive of shame down my street after a hard shovel at Grandmama’s and seeing all the dirty looks from the neighbors digging out as roll up and wait for the service to put the finishing touches on my driveway.

That brings an end to my confession father

Wheeler is around 20th in the NHL in scoring depending on what metric you use. He’s still a very capable top six player, no matter what the haters say.
No one has ever disputed his talent, it's his position on the top line, and his reliance on being on the top line to play well that is the problem. His value on the power play is huge, but 5v5 he doesn't seem to do much.

Did you pay for a service? Yes you did. You have nothing to feel guilty about. You should open your drapes and smile at the lady while you enjoy a cup of coffee from the warmth of your home.

Meanwhile, my neighbor hired idiots to clear her driveway... their snowblower sent the snow against my house, covering my gas meter, dryer vent and furnace exhaust outlet. I only discovered it when my furnace shut down. I'm fuming!

I'd also add it's none of their business why you aren't shoveling for all they know you're recovering from surgery etc. It's a two way street, to imply one should feel guilty, implies one should judge others while in the same circumstance.

The last two years Wheeler has the fourth highest 5v5 P/60 of all jets forwards, that doesn’t really scream “doesn’t do much 5v5”.

I have to admit I am a little torn. I had resigned myself to the possibility that the Jets would miss the playoffs and I was hoping to get a 1st rounder for Copp at the deadline but if they keep playing like they did last night, I think they have a chance to get in. That said, Copp was pretty invisible last night.

Plenty of forum "vets" argue after victories as well.
