I wasn't able to see the game last night (previous commitment) but I did PVR it just in case I missed a good one.

From a quick scan of this board so far, it sounds like this will be a great one to watch while everyone else is glued to a stupid football game.

I'd refrain from pointing out that, once again, the Jets have won when I wasn't watching the game live, but it's going to happen again tomorrow night. (I mean, seriously, who schedules a hockey game on Valentine's Day? Even guys who are obsessive hockey fans still have some common sense.) If we beat Chicago, I might claim an assist on helping it to happen.

Also from a quick scan, there still seems to be a strong residue of hate/dislike/insult towards Wheeler on here. A guy gets FIVE points in a game and still gets dumped on in here. Geez, guys, give your head a shake for a change.

Scheifele has been a lot better since the break. The points are there but he's also playing a much sounder all around game. That was the biggest thing this team needed to happen.

I'm giving Scheifele a little slack, now that he has started playing better. I'll assume he was having a hard time shaking the effects of the Covid.

As you say, it is not just the goals & points. He is playing with a lot more energy. He is getting back into the D zone and he appears engaged. All is forgiven - until that improved play disappears again.

Ya but Dubois is better.

The values of the 2 packages are close enough to not quibble about.
But when the values are close, the winner is whichever team got the single best player in the deal. So Jets & Chevy won. Though I still think we should have gotten more than a 3rd as the throw in.

That's a pretty high bar for Chevy. You won the trade, but you should have won it by more :D

With regards to the Dubois-Laine trade, I'm okay calling it a win-win. I'm glad Laine is heating up. Hopefully he can stay that way. And I guess I'm happy for Roslovic too

I'm happy with Dubois on this team, especially with Scheifele coming back into form. It gives us a nice 1-2 punch down the middle. You gotta give Columbus props for drafting him ahead of Puljujärvi

I agree with Lowry on the third -
I also expect to see Wheels staying with Scheif -
When Ehlers returns, Copp is heading to the third with Lowry - and that line will take some of the pressure off the top 6 as far as minutes go.
There will be some scoring on that line but I can see their priority as shut down being the focus.
Top 9 will see most of the minutes - top 6 will be expected to supply most of the offence.
The 4th will be the 4th - sub 10 minutes / game or less if they are trailing on the score board.
Really don’t understand the teams reluctance to try something different than this tbh. Honestly, this lineup construction hasn’t worked for them since 17-18 and they expect it to just magically reappear with essentially the same players, none of who have been as good since then.
Has to be a better way to deploy them imo.

I don't think they have the players to do much more with the lineup? 17-18 our defense was far and away the best grouping we have ever had. I'd look there for the difference between then and now.

My driveway is well over two hundred feet long and I can get some pretty fair-sized drifts.
A neighbour comes with his big tractor and bucket and informed us at the beginning of the winter last year that he will not be accepting anyting for cleaning the driveway.
When we told him we didn't feel right not giving him anything, he said get in line with other neighbours because he isn't accepting anything from them either!
That’s awesome! I love hearing stories like that.

Every goal that goes in, even on a clear cut breakaway, was a statistical stinker. This is not soccer, where on a free kick, the goalies are literally playing a guessing game as about a 3-1 underdog. Assuming you view tip-in efforts as statistical efforts (and not "if it went in, it was good, otherwise, it was bad"), goalies are favorites to stop everything.

This is why Vezina winners have a 1 in 6 chance of being league average in a 15 game run (and vice versa).

This is why a reasonable sample size for goalies is measured in the *thousands* of shots.

At the end of the day, there is no better indicator of Bucky's performance than looking at his performance and the percentile chance that, if it were "all luck", a random goalie would outperform him.

It really is that 'voodoo'.

Goalies being 'voodoo' is really all about the very small margin between the best starter in the league and the worst starter in the league.

If you look at the difference in terms of goals allowed, it looks very large. For round numbers, call it a GAA of 2 vs a GAA of 3. It would actually be as large as that looks if they were each facing 5 shots per game. But they are facing more like 35 shots per game and those 2 GAA's are 1 save per game out of 35 different. One guy stops 33, the other guy stops 32. So for the vast majority of the game, the 2 goalies are identical.

That is also why using sv% to compare goalies requires huge samples. The difference between a sv% of .910 and one of .930 is only 2 saves per 100 shots.

Really though? When Ehlers is back it’s not worth trying Stastny with Wheeler and Harkins of Svech? I love Lowry and agree he serves a role on the team for more than 5 minutes a game. But his offense is such a detriment to the team for his TOI and he simply doesn’t shut down top 6 opposition like he used to.

I think everyone gets emotional about this with Lowry and Wheeler. There are things this team can try that can bolster offense that compliments the improved back end.

I don’t get the reluctance tbh. It’s not like what they’re doing is some slam dunk.

At least once a game? Didn’t he just shut out the Wild?
He can let in some stinkers, you watch many other goalies regularly? They do too. Helle is far from a bad goal every game.

 Yes. But some games he lets in 2 bad ones.

No, I think Connor has often been underappreciated on this discussion board during his time here.

While I agree, he has risen in ranking this year because he has improved in several areas. He has clearly been our best winger, maybe our best forward. That wasn't always the case in the past.

I feel your pain, but in a different way.

This year, for the first time, I had a roofing company shovel my flat roof. Usually I do both the sidewalk and roof but couldn't get up because my usual access point was snowed in.

Suffice to say I paid more for that single service than you did for your entire season of shovelling. My wife says she is relieved because one of these days I will fall (yada yada) but the pain of writing that single cheque was major trauma in itself!

I understand your pain, about writing that big cheque, but I'll give you a tip, after owning many houses, like probably over 50 of them. ( rental property etc)

If you need somebody coz your busy, or not well, just run an add on Kijiji,(free) as there's always someone who needs money. The most I'd pay for what you had done, would be about $ 125 . A lot of these guys will work for around $ 20 bucs an hour. Say about 2 hours to do the driveway and sidewalk, and maybe 1.5 hours to clear roof of snow. So total of approximately 3.5 hours. At 3.5 hours @ $ 20.00 per hour, shouldn't be more than around roughly $ 100 bucs -- to $ 125 tops.

Run an add on Kijiji ( free) just say Will Pay $ 125 cash to shovel my driveway, and clear roof of snow. You'll get about 20 replies, as you'll be surprised how many people live month to month, and need the money. The problem here will be the "ladder" as a lot of these guys won't have one, so if you have one, let them use yours. If you don't have a ladder, then it will cost you more, to hire a bigger company.

I hire guys to cut my grass, and I pay $ 20.00 per cut, so that's 3 cuts per month, so I pay $ 60 - to $ 80.00 per month. My lawnmower broke down, and I'm too lazy or cheap to go buy a new one. I will say some guys will quote you like about $ 200 per month, but you need to find these guys just starting up, with no customer base. There's lots of them.

I like to do the snow shovelling myself, but it's mainly for the exercise, and it keeps me in shape, or I'd hire someone for about $ 150 - 200 month.
