How are the two related?

The reason Radulov is not signed right now is that Bergevin is not willing to give him 7-8 years. If anything, getting Drouin helps the Habs because Radulov has a bit less leverage.

The possibility of not resigning Radulov was always there.

Radulov will never get such a lenghty contract nowhere else in the NHL. He will be re sugned soon. For 5 seasons at the most.

That's the downside of the deal, we traded one of our best assets to not solve a major problem.

Assets, shmassets. We get a bona fide young gun with all the tools and a local for a suspect. Until Serge makes it (and he could be a solid one, that's to be seen), Drouin is it. And I prefer having Drouin than a 'maybe'.

Kid is excited. Very excited. He's going to burn through the camp and look like a champ in October.

you have countless posts saying Galchenyuk cannot pay C cause he's not good enough defensively and his FO is not good...

so why in hell would YOU be ok with Drouin at C then ? ? ? ? ?

lmao! I know right? Doesn't make sense.

It's because he is the only hab player that Belial hates simply because he was the embodiment of anti-therrienism on this board.

Lol of course I'm happy getting Drouin for a prospect that I felt had suspect IQ covering the cycle in his own end.

I just think it's incredibly ignorant that the GM hands long term contracts like candy to players before it's prudent to do so but in the situation where it was, he failed.

I'm a Mooseheads fan. I watched Drouin excel for three playoffs. But that being said there's no way of knowing how he handles being the hopes of the most ridiculous portion of this fan base. If he falters completely, that contract will suck any value out of the deal.

Drouin won't play centre. He's a winger. What Bergevin said yesterday was just giving the media what they wanted to hear.

Drouin is here to play the wing. He was told to shut up about the subject by Bergevin and Beauchamp. Yesterday was probably one of the most pleasant press conference by Bergevin since he got here. He played it to the media. He knew they were going bananas about le ti-gars de chez-nous. I mean, they even said that he was the most exciting French Canadian forward since Lafleur...Talk about a hyperbole.

Great signing, 5.5M$ is cheap for a guy like him.

...Well...
Roy, Theodore were goalies.

Desjardins was a great D-Men, but not exactly an exciting one.

Damphousse was a very good and versatile C/LW, but not exactly an exciting player.

Turgeon was a bit more exciting, but that doesn't make him exciting.

Tanguay, Brière, Audette and Perreault were past-prime and none of them were super exciting, save maybe Brière.

In other words, they're pretty much calling Drouin the most exciting FC since Stephane Richer. I'm not even sure this is an actual hyperbole (though I'd like Drouin to have the same impact on our team as Damphousse did).

Wow. just.. wow

Ive wanted Drouin for 4 years now...dream come true for me as well

it sucks to lose sergy but...honest to god..we can all admit it now, he scared the **** out of us defensively.. the offense is there..he will produce and be dangerous...but wow that kid is gonna get scored on for sure, take her easy Mikhail it was fun, but you were no sure thing, Drouin however, is a budding superstar in the making, electrifying is the only word to describe him

Me and my buddy always disccused these past couple years how not tanking in 2013 to get one of the big 4 was a huge blow to the progression of the team, teams get better with multiple top 5 picks for 3-4 years in a row, and we really needed to add to picking galchenyuk 3rd overall, drouin had an even better season than mackinnon that year who went 1st overall because of the blazing speed he posseses

out of nowhere, we now have one of the big 4 from 2013 as if we tanked after all that year lol, and oh my god i couldnt be happier, only better player would of been barkov lol, Drouin will do juuuuuuuuuuuust fine all things consiered (french star who is geniunely thrilled to be a hab)

i remember how pissed i was when i heard Drouin was refusing to report to AHL, as if "****, bergevin will never trade for him now.." thank god lol

im impressed Bergy.... now dont **** it up in these next 2-3 weeks... Radulov and Galchenyuk MUST STAY

It took time for me to ***** this trade and I'm still up in the air. To evaluate this trade we have to see what comes next.

1) The trade added another player on the expansion list to protect. That means unless we make another trade today we will leave a more talented player unprotected. If that's the case then that player needs to be added to the trade. Let's say MB trades Galchenyuk for Brodin then we lose Beaulieu in expansion draft.

2)With the Galchenyuk for Brodin trade or another similar one has this team really improved. We traded Galchenyuk & Sergachev for Drouin & Brodin. Throw in Beaulieu and I see a lowering of our assets' value.

3) If Radulov is not signed then we're not better than last year's team.

4) Our top prospect has been traded and we still don't have a #1 or #2 center. Drouin is not a center and the Habs are shy about using Galchenyuk as one.

Although I was slightly happy about the trade yesterday, I still haven't made up my mind. I think this trade depends on what happens going forward. Gaining Drouin and losing Galchenyuk may be a lateral move. Then losing Radulov because we have JD doesn't make us better. We still haven't acquired our biggest needs: 2 top six centers.

So in a long-winded way I'm saying I'll wait before I pass judgment on this trade.

Bobby Smith said that

Handling the puck.....Drouin

Full out......probably a tie

All we need now is to add McKinnon :D

is he really that fast? I always thought skating was a bit of a question mark. Even if he's really not Byron fast, the fact that people are even asking is amazing.

What a trade . I'm not Bergevin fans but this one, 100% . Take advantage of a player whose value is low because of draft expansion and last year's contract history to take him . Same thing happens last year with Subban (disturbs+no trade clause) thats why its value was lower and Weber (Team canada+leader+good season when he was 26-27) was higher . Good trade is just a history of TIMING . When the other player is valuer is lower of what is worth

Why i am happy to , Drouin are one of top 5 best winger in NHL for rush . It is specifically what a winger should be good . mostly with the habs ,because we have a bad first pass , so we never enter with a good numeric

While I remain a bit skeptical about Drouin's potential impact at C (especially in the faceoff dot and in his own end), he can drop pucks on pillows for shooters better than anyone else we have/had, and can find spaces to do it where not many others can.

I compare his ability in this regard to Patrick Kane...

Not comparing him to Kane, I just think Drouin possesses many of Kane's attributes.

He's fast WITH the puck...he explodes when he has the puck on his stick. The play doesn't have to slow down for him when he's got the puck.

No, he's not really that fast. But no, skating has never been a question mark for Drouin. He has a strong background in power and figure skating, I believe, and has leg to rest of body proportions that will remind you of Crosby. Really strong legs. He can't burn in straight lines like Byron, but he can handle the puck and make plays better at "nearly" the same speeds.

It could back fire but still you have a chance to lock up Drouin at that price you have to take it. This could be an amazing contract. Totally worth the gamble. Hindsight could prove you right but without knowing the future this is the right thing to do at the moment.

He did the speed thing at the ASG and got 13.103 making him the fastest skater in 2015. To put it into perspective, McDavid won last year and did it in 13.020. Larkin won the year before with 12.894 which is the fastest all time. A guy like Duchene who is known as being fast will do around 14 seconds. Drouin is very much one of the fastest players in the entire league. Probably not far off Byron.

He won the speed contest 2 years ago.

I keep hearing 'best French player since Richer or Roy' - did they all forget about Damphousse? Or the immortal Dagenais??
