No rookie is going to come in and play top 4 minutes successfully.Habs traded defense for offense knowing they had defensemen coming to take the spot. They didn’t leave a hole.

IMO The trade is huge for Kirby. Davidson saw him as Bowman's legacy, wanted to prove himself by being Dach's savior despite the fact that he didn't offer any real help. Chicago fans even don't think he's worth a second-round pick after a frustrating year. Meanwhile Blackhawks has traded Cat, next season, they will be worse than this season.
But Hughes really wants him, still believe in him and is willing to overpay for him. When you're at your worst and someone is willing to give you a chance, it will help fix confidence.
Hughes gambling on Dach. Paid big price for him.Bowman and Colliton are probably to blame for some of it, rushed him back from a really bad injury after WJC, but CHI interim coach this year also made a comment that basically hinted that Kirby needs to reset his expectations for the kind of player he thinks he is and what he can actually be in the NHL...think they just soured on him and wanted to move on, the ceiling is still there if his wrist is fine
Lol why not just calm down and watch what will happen.Dach came in as 3rd O, but has shown little in 3 years. Why the rush? Slaf and Dach look like potential busts. I am regretting Bergevin, believe it or not.
It was exactly my thoughts before the draft. When the rumours were swirling about the Sens 7OA, i brought the fact that Anderson was far from enough to move the needle and would probably need to also sacrifice Romanov to get the pick.I liked Romy too. Though I think Guhle will replace him well, probably better. I guess Hughes felt he was expendable, and favors faster skating Dmen.
Yep. My thoughts exactly. We all know Romanov would never be an offensive dinamo for Habs. Habs badly needed a center an offense. They are building Habs offense right now and i like it.Good trade by Habs.
Romanov will be a good #4 but will never be a top pairing defenseman. If Dach can be a big #2 center for them, then it's easily a win.
Pretty much this and the habs are likely to regret itYeah, this is almost an exact repeat of the Drouin trade. We traded a high potential young Russian defense prospect for a struggling former 3OA pick.
I think the Debrincat deal is a steal but you are missing some context. The difference between 13 and 7 OA is significant, and you can't ignore the Cap. Debrincat makes 6.4 and in 2 years will be around 8.5. Dach is on an expiring entry level deal and will be bridged at a much lower amount. Reality is Cat was up for sale for a while and the best they got was the Ottawa offer, can't ignore the Cap, almost every team is up against it.So the difference between acquiring Dach or Debrincat boils down to a mere second round pick. Mind-boggling.
Who keeps their balls hairy ?How do you now his balls are bald?
Serge had played a handful of games, Romo has played more then 100. A lot of believe Romo's ceiling isn't much more then what he has shown, which is fine, he is a fringe top 4 today. I mean the guy hasn't shown an ounce, literally zero, offensive upside, whereas everyone knew Serge had gobs of offensive talent. And Romo was a second round pick that was way off the board.Yeah, this is almost an exact repeat of the Drouin trade. This is real life, not a Disney movie...
And Romanov has shown nothing but dedication and improvement over his 2 years in the NHL. They are going to likely regret this one as much as giving away Sergachev for a overrated Drouin. Making a hole on defence to get a center does not work.Serge had played a handful of games, Romo has played more then 100. Yes both Russians for 3OA but no comparison IMO when you look at the actual players.
IRL psychology matters a lot more than in a Disney movie, actually.
This trade was a memorable draft moment especially when it was announced that Dach was traded to Montreal.
Next year or 2 doesn't mathers. 2 years of development. Guhle is playing next year and will take a lot of minutes. Corey Schueneman played better than Romanov last year to be honest. Underrated. Cannot be return to AHL without passing waiver. With Harris and Edmundson, it was jammed on left side.No rookie is going to come in and play top 4 minutes successfully.
Nope. Can be Drouin for this year while Slaf is playing with veterans to start his career.yeah but one of anderson or slaf will be playing with caufield and suzuki
This is exactly what happened. Their plan must be to have a real 1c with Suzuki and dach as the 2nd and 3rd line centre. They want a future powehouse, they shoot high. They figured next year was a better year to get that 1c and were not convince that wright- Suzuki was good enough. Thats why they draft slaf and gamble on next year. Imagine bedard, Suzuki and dach down the middle. Thats a Stanley cup coreI think they bet on MSL to fix him like he did with Caufield last year. 6 months ago Caufield was a s*** player and a bust, once MSL arrived Cole started playing much better and looked like a new player. I think the management picked Slafkovsky mainly because they know they will finish bottom 5 and will target a C then, the top 10 next year has like 7 C
Fair enough, but it's probably not a confidence issue, with the Hawks they gave him two elite wingers and minutes to express himself, it did not work... The issue is somewhere else.
Wow! A week ago a lot of Hab fans were saying Romanov was untouchable and a sure fire future top pairing guy. Now he’s packaged with a third rounder for Dach.
Things sure changed quickly.
I think Dubois is the backup plan in 2 years. The 2023 draft is no guarantee as you still have to finish bottom 3 and there is no guarantee of that. This is exactly what happened. Their plan must be to have a real 1c with Suzuki and dach as the 2nd and 3rd line centre. They want a future powehouse, they shoot high. No one was saying Romanov was sure fire future top pairing guy. To be a top pairing guy you need to produce offense and Romanov has never done that in any league in his career. Romanaov is a strong 2nd pairing dman who will make big hits.Wow! A week ago a lot of Hab fans were saying Romanov was untouchable and a sure fire future top pairing guy.
