How about

EDM/COL
Eberle + Nurse

for

Barrie

ANA/COL
Fowler + Ritchie

for

Landeskog

COL out: Barrie + Landeskog
COL in: Fowler + Eberle + Ritchie + Nurse

Doesn't seem like a bad haul too me.

If Edmonton gets Barrie without giving up anything huge, they're going to be a playoff team imo as long as McD stays healthy.

How would they get him without giving up anything huge?.. if avs trade barrie to oilers , they will demand a gigantic return

I'm not sure how they get Barrie without giving up something huge.
Larsson cost them their second best player. Barrie will also have a high cost.
Despite all of their high level forwards they weren't a very good offensive club. It will be interesting to see how the loss of Hall and whom ever they lose for Barrie, impacts their offence.

Oilers wouldn't sign Demers if they get Barrie, they'd keep Fayne (who is still serviceable) and happily expose him in the expansion draft. Protect Klef, Sekera, Larsson, Barrie.

Oilers would have to expose Davidson and Fayne, and would probably lose Davidson if he continues his trajectory this season.

Wouldn't that be poor asset management? Everything I hear about Davidson from Oilers fans is that he's on his way to becoming a decent #3/4.

Maybe the Avs will pull a Chia and trade Barrie to the Oilers for pennies on the dollar because they are banking on getting a lesser replacement in Demers just like Lucic in Edmonton. Or maybe other teams aren't that stupid.

They would want Nurse, IMO.

Wouldn't Edmonton have to protect Nurse since he would have 2 years of Pro Hockey under his belt (15-16 and 16-17 if he plays)?

If so, including him in a trade for Barrie would make sense.

No, you need more than 2. Likewise McDavid is exempt

If we're moving Landeskog to the Ducks, Lindholm would have to be coming back the other way.

Not much they can do if they acquire 2 defensemen this summer. Everybody is going to lose a player for nothing. They'll also end up exposing Reinhart, who they overpaid for last year; would be a lot of assets down the drain if he got claimed, but I think the obvious choice for Vegas would be Davidson.

I guess it depends on how high they are on the defensemen they trade for. But honestly if Davidson can become a good #3 like Petry, it doesn't make sense to do a trade now, rather than wait another year and than go for a trade. It's clear that Chia will pay the price for the players he's targetting, so why not do it after the expansion draft?

Oilers getting another defenceman would mean they are going the 8 skaters route in the expansion draft.

They have to protect Sekera and then you'd assume Klefblom and Larsson are givens as well. Add another d-man and they'd only lose him... unless they do the 8 skaters thing, Draisaitl, RNH, Eberle and probably Lucic would be the forwards if those reports are true.

Part of your acquisition cost of getting a defenceman is losing a guy like Pouliot (or probably Maroon if Lucic doesn't sign) to Vegas.

That's an odd comparison. Fowler isn't perfect but isn't the defensive seive that JJ is.

An Avs fan on Twitter showed some advanced stats comparing Fowler and JJ which showed a lot of similarities. From there Avs fans have been calling him JJ. I apologize on behalf of our fan base for this. I promise you some of us know the difference.

I still don't see a true number one and it's debatable if any of these guys is a top #2 dman. Lots of good -- not great players.

Pittsburgh proved you can win with a marginal blueline. Having top pairing guys helps, but there's nothing wrong with having 5 top 4 D. Besides Barrie is pretty good.
