People here need to recognize the rumor hierarchy:
1) Unverified rumors: things that "insiders" are "hearing"; they're not confirmed to be happening, and they generally come in the form of something along the lines of "Lots of talk that team X is interested in/shopping player Y"-- these could happen, could not happen. These are NOT statements of fact. There might be smoke, but there might not be as well.
2) Substantiated rumors: deals that are very far along between teams but not officially transacted or completed; there is clearly smoke coming out of the windows, but no confirmation that the building is actually on fire. Generally in the form of "Something brewing between Team X and Team Y". These are statements of fact, but the fact is that discussions exist-- not that a deal has been consummated.
3) Full trade-break: confirmed deals that insiders are legitimately breaking as a news story; they come in the form of "Player X traded to Team Y pending trade call"-- these trades are imminent and likely are fully confirmed and recognized by the NHL within short order.
Mirtle's tweet falls in category two. Something is going on, but this is not an F5, imminent rumor type of deal. People often mix up types 2 and 3.
