People here need to recognize the rumor hierarchy:

1) Unverified rumors: things that "insiders" are "hearing"; they're not confirmed to be happening, and they generally come in the form of something along the lines of "Lots of talk that team X is interested in/shopping player Y"-- these could happen, could not happen. These are NOT statements of fact. There might be smoke, but there might not be as well.

2) Substantiated rumors: deals that are very far along between teams but not officially transacted or completed; there is clearly smoke coming out of the windows, but no confirmation that the building is actually on fire. Generally in the form of "Something brewing between team X and Team Y". These are statements of fact, but the fact is that discussions exist-- not that a deal has been consummated.

3) Full trade-break: confirmed deals that insiders are legitimately breaking as a news story; they come in the form of "Player X traded to Team Y pending trade call"-- these trades are imminent and likely are fully confirmed and recognized by the NHL within short order.

Mirtle's tweet falls in category two. Something is going on, but this is not an F5, imminent rumor type of deal. People often mix up types 2 and 3.

I picture every team having a rat and running into a bathroom stall and waiting for the coast to be clear and calling/telling the press what is going on.... that's gotta be how it works haha

Chevy wouldn't move Trouba for Barrie Chevy is looking for LHD not another RHD and Trouba is already bigger and stronger then Barrie and Barrie wants as much as Trouba this deal wouldn't make sense for Winnipeg.

You don't like using he, she, & you, do you?

So we could be talking about:

Sekera - Larsson
Klefbom - Barrie
Nurse - Demers

The Oilers go from the worst blueline in the league to potentially top 10 in one offseason.

I can't recall the last time an Avs trade got leaked. They all just happen.
ROR trade was kinda leaked in the week leading up to it but it was obviously coming after the soderberg acquisition

If Edmonton gets Barrie without giving up anything huge, they're going to be a playoff team imo as long as McD stays healthy.

Definitely can't do Demers if the Oilers get Barrie. That would be 5 D they have to protect in the expansion draft.

I still don't see a true number one and it's debatable if any of these guys is a top #2 dman. Lots of good -- not great players.

And to boot.. Klefbom is better than Sekera so that group is probably even better than you think. Klef will definitely be paired with Larsson. They will compliment each other very well.

EDIT - Didn't see Demers there.. don't see that happening if Barrie comes in.

That one had the writing on the wall, not the same IMO. All these rumours have are smoke.

I'm not going to say a trade won't happen today, but I don't think it's worth holding your breath over.

Mirtle tweeted "handy list here" in reference to this article:

The Avalanche would likely only be willing to move Barrie by getting another young, top-pairing defenceman in return — leaving him as his next team’s trouble to sign.

Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene have both been linked in trade rumblings over the last year, and one or the other could be used as a chip to help bring back that blueliner.

Trouba or Fowler make the most sense.

And if it were to go down like that, One of Barrie, Demers or Larsson is going to be exposed next summer in the expansion draft. Cant's protect them all.

couldn't they go the 8+1 route? Assuming RNH is going the other way they protect the 5 D, Eberle, Draisaitl, and 1 other guy(probably Lucic when they sign him). McDavid, and Puljujarvi both exempt.

Oilers wouldn't sign Demers if they get Barrie, they'd keep Fayne (who is still serviceable) and happily expose him in the expansion draft. Protect Klef, Sekera, Larsson, Barrie.

Oilers would have to expose Davidson and Fayne, and would probably lose Davidson if he continues his trajectory this season.

I can't see the oilers still picking up demers if they get Barrie. It will be interesting to see if chia gambles on waiting for Barrie and potentially missing out on demers. Although I wonder if Larsson made him completely change his mind and just go straight for a PPQB

IF they landed Barrie, they wouldn't sign Demers to the big contract he is expected to get. Probably just resign Gryba and role with. Protect Sekere(NMC), Klefbom, Barrie and Larsson. Then Drai, Nuge/Ebs (whichever one isn't moved for Barrie), 2 of Yak, Pouliot, Maroon, Lucic?.

Klefbom-Larsson
Sekera-Barrie
Davidson-Gryba
Reinhart
Nurse in the AHL
