They are assigned opinions they have to try and defend to spice up "conversation" on air, and to get people who don't know better riled up. It clearly works.

I've only seen the last 5 or so pages of this thread but I'm seeing a lot of most being mad and condescending about Leaf fans defending this 'logically', but I'm not seeing any Leaf fans actually defending the hit.
It certainly appears that way. No reasonable person would have the take Biron had there. No way no how.

I would agree to an extent. My 3 Leafs fan friends I consider reasonable all thought Reilly was at fault too and what Greig did was a nothing burger.

I'm not sure what benefit of the doubt your looking for on the bunting hit, it was a direct shoulder to the head of an unsuspecting player that was intelligible to be hit, and not a case where you could argue it was a hockey play gone wrong, right there there is pretty strong precedence for a multi game suspension, add in that there was an injury on the play and you get what you get. Maybe you could argue it should have been two games instead of three? Or Gallagher should have gotten 6? I see those as pretty comparable tbh. Neither guy had been suspended prior but both play with an edge.
Rielly will probably get like 8 games, wouldn't surprise me even if its more. I'm saying theres comparable plays that receive less.

I can see why Rielly was pissed.

No penalty called against the Sens, then Stutzle flops around as usual drawing one and it kills Toronto's momentum in the end. Then, Ratboy Greig makes a fool of himself, as a rookie. Rielly was just welcoming him to the league. It's going to be 5 or more, but should be 1-2. Good on the Leafs not to take that shit, usually they just lie down and take the beating.
Amazing how triggered Habs fans get every time Stützle draws a call, doesn't even have to be against the Habs anymore and you guys are losing your minds over it... Benoit put his stick between the guys legs as he skated across, what do you expect to happen ...

I actually laughed at the clip (didn't see the game). It was the tiniest amount of hot dogging in the world, if you can even call it that, and a bizarre over use of force from one of the most calm players in the league, normally.

Please Understand
Everyone is in here crapping on Toronto fans, and I get it, but why is it always lost on everyone in these sorts of threads that EVERY SINGLE fanbase here acts in EXACTLY the same way 100% of the time when a player on their team finds themselves in a similar situation as Rielly has?

When Mark Scheifele trucked Evans in their playoff series, I had no qualms about the suspension. It's completely and wholly unnecessary at that stage in the game. I was also annoyed with how unrepentant he was about it.

This is the same thing. I didn't even think it was worthy of being a suspension because roughing after the whistle on empty net goals happens enough times to remove it as a mitigating factor. Guess they really didn't like the blind side sucker punch cross check to the face. Doesn't matter what Greig did. He could have done the gritty after doing that goal. In fact, it would have been f***ing funny if he did.

Dude literally cross checked his shoulder and the other guy lifted his arm up, to which Morgan let go of his stick. If he gets games more proof this league is a joke
say it with me: you are responsible for your stick at all times.

If you hit a guy in the head because a cross check you initiated didn't go the way you planned it that's still your fault.

you clearly are one of two things

1) Under the age of thirty
or
2) Never played hockey in your life

but props to comparing this to a woman getting assaulted.......

Your fellow fans argue that Ridley should have been expecting to get a suspendable cross check to the back of the head because he shot a puck.

You guys are more mentally fragile than Morgan and that’s saying a lot.

Ya, I mean, you really can't frame it any way other than Reilly just flat out losing his cool and doing something well outside the lines that now deserves a suspension.

Is what it is. Doubt he'll do it again since he should get a healthy suspension.

I just can't believe people are even talking about Greig. Absolute nothing burger imo. I'd be kicked out of my league a 100 times over if I retaliated actions like that in the way Reilly did.

It was the appropriate action.
From a team full of marshmallow soft p***yes, maybe.

The appropriate action from a team with even the tiniest bit of toughness would have been to square up with Grieg and make him drop the gloves.

Nothing new here, though. This Leaf team is as soft as they come.

Ruh roh. In person hearing for Morgan. Tanev’s cost just increased 2 fold.

But I wonder when is the League going to talk to Greig. Surely what he has done has tarnished the reputation of the League. Were the announcement for his hearing? Or is it delayed cause the League needs a full criminal investigation first?

It looked more like a young guy getting a much needed goal, even if it was an empty net. Looked more like a "finally" shot.

They don't have the talking heads on their side ruining the broadcasts. What we saw on Sportsnet and TSN last night was shameful.

Imagine having this opinion... Just listen to like the first 30 seconds. Cross check immediately excused, followed by the BIG NO NO by Greig. Hahaha ya okay then, give me a break.

The craziest thing here is Biron saying something like : You shouldn't do that, especially in game that's so important, for the Maple Leafs anyways.

How is that of any concern to Greig?
