Ya, I mean, you really can't frame it any way other than Reilly just flat out losing his cool and doing something well outside the lines that now deserves a suspension.

Is what it is. Doubt he'll do it again since he should get a healthy suspension.

I just can't believe people are even talking about Greig. Absolute nothing burger imo. I'd be kicked out of my league a 100 times over if I retaliated actions like that in the way Reilly did.
It's just crazy to go from not getting a penalty for half a season, to doing that out of the blue lol.

way too many ex-players agree with Reilly's actions.
Most player reactions I've seen are ok with Reilly reacting, and not ok with how he reacted. That seems to me to be a sensible compromise, though some do lay it on a bit thick when complaining about how out of line greigs slap shot into the EN was.

Agree. 10 games for this one is what it should be imo. Targeted him, skated over from afar, deliberate cross check to the head.
It will be in the 10 game range and all the talking heads will be instructed to hit home the point that the only reasons it didn't reach 20 was because Reilly is not a repeat offender and he is a softer player so Greig wasn't injured.

If he only gets 6, he is very lucky. Perron is the only comparable, but Perron did it in the first period where there is already a disincentive for it via penalties mattering. Reilly doing it in the last few seconds means the league needs to go very hard on it.

and Pietrangelo's was a hockey play? Lumber jack axe chop to the arm?

Prior bad decisions aren't a reason to ignore future egregious plays.

Anything less than 10 for Rielly is a complete disgrace and Ottawa should go out of their way to hurt him next game.

I despise the Ottawa Senators but seriously, outside of end result, what's so radically different between this and what Dale Hunter did to Pierre Turgeon?

Glad to see that the Leafs are living Rent free in many people's heads still.

Reilly made a stupid play and should be punished but if people think there isn't a code, or a need for one probably like living in todays social media circus eh?

Just saying.

Whole thing wouldn't have been necessary if the Leafs held the lead in the last bit of the game. This is the thing that is getting lost in all of this.

Senators were the dominant team it this years matches against the Leafs. It's almost as if the Senators relish a game against the Leafs because its an easy win.

Leafs look like they could be in trouble again.

Part of sports is keeping your cool in the face of another team that wants to beat you, and you probably don't like.

Reilly was salty they lost and nothing excuses a cross check to the head.

It is. He's that guy we've all been around at some point. Quiet AF and then flips out out of nowhere and does something nobody expected.

I honestly don't get what's so objectionable about taking a slapshot into an empty net. This is the first I've heard of this being a CODE(tm) violation.

It’s just an excuse by Leaf’s nation (media included) to try to justify Reilly’s stupid actions. That’s why this is the first you’re hearing of it, they are scrambling to come up with some spurious rationalization.

This was the way I read it too. People understand the reaction not the cross check to the head.

Exactly, If Reilly didn't have his stick go above the neck area there would be no outcry. But for people to think that Greig deserved no sort of retaliation is laughable to me, even he would admit he expected something.

It looked more like a young guy getting a much needed goal, even if it was an empty net. Looked more like a "finally" shot.
Whatever it was, it was something, but sometimes something is about the same as nothing. That is the case here. It didn't deserve any response other than a chirp AT MOST.

I'm just at disbelief at the sequence of events and Rielly being the perp.

Agree with all of this. I have faith they will do the right thing and give 10+. I'm okay with that.

Anything that puts the proof in the pudding and takes this nonsense about what Greig did out of the equation.

I say 3-5 games

First time offender and wasn't really a crosscheck. Reilly let go of his stick as he hit Greig.

The “code” would be Grieg having to square up with whoever challenged him.

Getting yourself suspended for a chickenshit move like Reilly’s is just moronic.
