Instead of a clapper . Maybe Greig should have done this instead
Or maybe just like any of the other 200 odd ENG you see in a season?

Better phrasing... 'that player showed us no respect and deserved a reaction from us.' He may get a fine himself.lolIt appears that Keefe’s “appropriate action” is going to get an appropriate suspension. His response to the question was a poor choice of words in support of his player.
I've seen far more post like this than Leaf fans defending it, especially at this point. I guarantee the "media" is doing most of the heavy lifting in making some people so mad at Leaf fans. People are mad, gotta channel that anger somewhere I guess. It’s just an excuse by Leaf’s nation (media included) to try to justify Reilly’s stupid actions. That’s why this is the first you’re hearing of it, they are scrambling to come up with some spurious rationalization.
I think he will get more than 6 because of when it happened in the game.
Perron cross checked Zub mid-way through the first period. Reilly did his with seconds to go.
In game consequences don't matter with seconds to go because it's not like a PP or game misconduct matters at that point. That takes away the primary deterrent for players to act out. The suspension needs to be very steep to show players that they cannot capitalize on a game being over to try to assault another player.
Why is a slapshot showboating? It's been a common shot type since at least Boom Boom in the 50s, and has apparently been used as far back as the 30s.It's seen as showboating and a douchey move.
He is a first time offender.Prior bad decisions aren't a reason to ignore future egregious plays.
Anything less than 10 for Rielly is a complete disgrace and Ottawa should go out of their way to hurt him next game.
I despise the Ottawa Senators but seriously, outside of end result, what's so radically different between this and what Dale Hunter did to Pierre Turgeon?
Crazy, eh?Ah yes, back when Turgeon egregiously violated the code by having the audacity to ... [checks notes] ... celebrate after scoring a goal in the playoffs.
I say 3-5 games
First time offender and wasn't really a crosscheck. Reilly let go of his stick as he hit Greig.
Me too. Slapshot on a breakaway/penalty shot, sure. Putting the puck in the net after the whistle has gone (especially with a goalie in the net) everyone knows.I honestly don't get what's so objectionable about taking a slapshot into an empty net. This is the first I've heard of this being a CODE(tm) violation.
It's seen as showboating and a douchey move.
No different than the over the top goal celebrations we seeIt's seen as showboating and a douchey move.
maybe, Keefe seems like a bit of a dumb hot head (and I think refs know this, which is why his tantrums get him nowhere), I would not be terrible surprised if in the moment he wanted a particularly stupid reaction.Better phrasing... 'that player showed us no respect and deserved a reaction from us.' He may get a fine himself.lol
FTR.. I totally agree he wanted a reaction and deserved a reaction. Just not that reaction.lol
No, you can clearly see it came off the stick as a result of it colliding with his neck. Not really the same as "letting up".I say 3-5 games

Part of the problem I have with a lot of players today is they think they can do this kind of stuff to get under someones skin but then are completely unwilling to step up and back up their actions. I'm not necessarily saying it fits this instance but there was a time these types of players would actually have to fight and that just isn't a concern anymore.Better phrasing... Oooohhhhhhh I'd kinda like to see a playing going from a Michigan on an empty-netter, especially with the "wrap around the net for no-reason-whatsoever" variant. Why is a slapshot showboating? It's been a common shot type since at least Boom Boom in the 50s, and has apparently been used as far back as the 30s.
If he Michigan'd? Sure. But it's a slapshot.
It appears that Keefe’s “appropriate action” is going to get an appropriate suspension. His response to the question was a poor choice of words in support of his player.
Exactly. You want to talk about code? Then don't do what Reilly did. Credibility instantly gone and nothing else that happened on the play even matters. The “code” would be Grieg having to square up with whoever challenged him.
Getting yourself suspended for a chickenshit move like Reilly’s is just moronic.
Will Rielly step up to his actions?Part of the problem I have with a lot of players today is they think they can do this kind of stuff to get under someones skin but then are completely unwilling to step up and back up their actions. Some of you should never watch football. You should see what they do after they get a touchdown. You would want to murder their families.
In the moment, I assume he loved it. I assume most Leaf fans loved it the second it happened.maybe, Keefe seems like a bit of a dumb hot head (and I think refs know this, which is why his tantrums get him nowhere), I would not be terrible surprised if in the moment he wanted a particularly stupid reaction.
he should probably be arrested and sent to jail.
it's the only logical response.
