In the moment, I assume he loved it. I assume most Leaf fans loved it the second it happened.

Not sure he'll love missing his 1D in a playoff drive though.
I didn't love it and don't. Maybe the ones who think Rielly sucks, but I imagine in the moment most fans stomach's dropping knowing he's gone for a while.

I know you’re joking. But if Greig broke his neck on that play, the police probably DO get involved though. That’s how egregious and non-hockey-play his actions were.
absolutely. i'm shocked the police don't get involved more in the NHL.

they just aren't listening close enough to my complaints clearly.

the egregiousness of everything today.

sometimes easier to just stay in bed.

Part of the problem I have with a lot of players today is they think they can do this kind of stuff to get under someones skin but then are completely unwilling to step up and back up their actions. I'm not necessarily saying it fits this instance but there was a time these types of players would actually have to fight and that just isn't a concern anymore.
Totally agree.. he should've taken the shot and dropped his stick and slowly backed towards the corner anticipating a fight. Instead he skated away like nothing happened looking all innocent.lol

I get the outrage from former players and fans... I totally do! But Rielly was just plain dumb here and had several other reaction options.

The Sens players was showing them up and Ottawa in general are a team of shitstain players that can't have a successful season to save its life. This has led to the fanbase having a massive little brother complex.

It's also completely irrelevant as to whether one of their players should take a premeditated crosscheck to the face because their player was somewhat douchey about an empty net goal.
The owner held it back. We've been screaming for 10+ years. Watch out.

Exactly, If Reilly didn't have his stick go above the neck area there would be no outcry. But for people to think that Greig deserved no sort of retaliation is laughable to me, even he would admit he expected something.
I can't think of anyone that would have an issue if Reilly skated over and shoved Greig or face washed him, heck a slash to the shin pads a and challenge him to a fight if your that upset about it. Coming in hot with a high crosscheck, intentionally to the head or not, is just so wildly out of the realm of reasonable responses, and some of the hyperbole around how egregious the EN slapper was to justify rightly deserves to be ridiculed

Morgan Rielly would 100 percent deserve to be arrested for assault if he did this in any other context.

He also probably would be facing legal problems if this had resulted in serious injury to the player.

Some folks really don't realize how bad what he did was.

But he didn’t do it in another context so I’m not sure your point exactly?

If Morgan Rielly did something different, he would face different consequences? I agree.

Maybe he would have if Reilly tried? We don't really know since he only did what he did without any attempt to "man up".

Checking people shoulder-to-shoulder wouldn't fly outside of hockey either but it's part of the sport.

This clearly isn't and shouldn't be tolerated as such but will be because of a misguided sense of 'context'.

Morgan Rielly flat-out committed assault with a weapon last night. And I'm not even slightly exaggerating.
