Bedard really feels Chicago esque.
He would also fit in a SJ uniform.

Cant picture him in a Blue jackets uniform. Impossible.

I hear what you’re saying, but I still think it’s murky regarding moving up via another team’s pick. In other words, if Florida’s pick moves up, is it Florida moving up with Montreal as the beneficiary, or is it considered that Montreal is moving up? Conversely, suppose my Blackhawks are lucky enough to advance in the draft and win the lottery the next two years. In year-3, their pick wouldn’t be eligible to win, but according to you if they trade the pick then the pick could win the lottery for another team? Again, that could be how it works, but it’s far from clear.

Dude, it's clear. You're just not used to reading legal documents. The phrase I quoted is right after they talk about advancing in the draft order. The limitation is applied to the team that wins a draw to advance. The Florida pick BELONGS to montreal, so if a draw is won, it's Montreal winning it.

Stop creating a dilema whrre there is none.

Lets say Montreal wins the bedard pick and trades it for McDavid. Why shouln't that count against us?

-ly low.

NHL announces changes to Draft Lottery format

(3) Limit on Teams Winning a Lottery Draw
No single team will be able to advance in the Draft order by reason of winning a Lottery Draw more than two (2) times in any five (5) year period. This limitation will not affect a Club's ability to retain its presumptive Draft position in any Draft Lottery, nor would it preclude the possibility of the Club moving down in Draft Order to the extent other Clubs advance by reason of winning the Lottery Draws”
Thanks man. That seems much clearer.

No. I'm saying an unprotected lottery pick has high value in trades, because of its potential. Why should the team trading away these picks not "pay their dues" so to speak in the limit of winning? The reason the pick has such a high trade value was because of said chance of winning.

Chicago could trade their unprotected first this year for a pile. Why would they get the return, and a chance to win in the future 2/5 years along with that?

I'm not arguing how you're interpreting it, or how it reads. I'm arguing whats fair.

Originally I wanted him to be a Kraken for the sake of them being new, close to his home, and it's always nice for a new franchise to have a franchise player.

But I want him to be a Canuck. If not the Canucks, maybe Habs or Blue Jackets.

Habs could turn their team around very quickly all things considered. Only have to iron out their back end but should be interesting to spectate this rebuild at a glance.

I guess the lesson is never ever trade an unprotected first in a future year. Anything can happen. And their 2025 first is gone now too I believe?

Mind blowing Florida actually traded an unprotected first for chiarot. That’s a fireable offense…absolute disaster for that team
