Hypothetical obviously. But if you have 1-2...you take Bedard and Michkov right? I feel like you can afford to wait on Michkov at that point.

Yes they did...?

You may wanna look up how the draft lottery works. Even if you finished last place, it's still a lottery, and Montreal won.
Yeah they did for sure.

Doesn't count towards the lotto winning rules was maybe what he meant..but yea they still won it.

Speaking of Florida being Florida, two other French Canadian first overall picks, Vincent Lecavalier and Marc-Andre Fleury, were both technically Florida Panther picks. They messed up huge trading the Lecavalier pick a year out, and then traded down in the Fleury draft.

Since FLA gave u their 2023 first might they make deals before the coming TDL to improve this year? That would likely pull them out of the draft lottery shot at the top pick. But still, the Habs could win with their own pick. Habs could pick (1-5) and (11-16). Pretty good in a very good draft.

If we are talking about the rule that the same team cannot win twice, then Montreal still hasn’t won it - they won by default last year. They can still win it the next 2 years in a row.

Package those picks with Slavkosky+the rest of the team for Bedard.

We'll figure out the rest later.

Florida is in a uniquely tough situation, having emptied the cupboards of picks and prospects last year, let a number of high profile pieces go over the summer and are now capped out. They would be EA Sports on hard mode.

I've thought about this. Why would Florida do something not in their own best interest just so that Montreal doesn't get a better pick? If they can sell some assets at the TDL if they're not in a playoff spot, why wouldn't they do that? So that the fans can feel better about not giving up a high pick? The pick is gone.

either way Montreal is going to get a really good player. I think Florida will improve and land too high to land Bedard but seems like there's a real good chance the Florida 1st is a lottery pick

Surely you realize that this lowers the value of the pick to the trading partner.
Of course, but what other first traded last deadline weren't protected?

Florida traded their 2024 1st and protected that one.
Both 1sts for Hagel are top 10 protected.
Floridas 2022 1st was top 10 protected.
1st for Toffoli was top 10 protected.
1st for Eichel top 10 protected
1st for Keumper was top 10 protected.

Practically every 1st traded beyond last year was top 10 protected. Florida's is the only one that I can find that wasnt. There was like 1 2022 1st traded at the deadline that wasnt protected (Boston's 1st for Lindholm) but they were already comfortably in a playoff spot.

Its almost the standard now to top 10 protect trades, so I really don't think it would influence the value that much. And youre trading for Ben f***ing Chiarot, even the 1st in the Eichel trade was top 10 protected. Florida caught themselves in a pinch already top 10 protecting their 2022 first and 2024 first before trading away their 2023 first for Chiarot. Just horrible gming and asset management.

As others have mentioned you also have the Duchene and Karlsson trades turning out pretty lopsided due to not lottery protecting 1sts. If the 1st involved for Eichel can be top 10 protected, im sure a 1st for Ben Chiarot could have as well.

Would love to see them get burned for the incompetence.

4th best? Is this thread worthy. Who has the best odds?
Right now it's Chicago, but Anaheim played more games...

In order for Montreal to get better odds than #32 OA, they'd have to finish #30 and FLA #29 (total 20% odds vs 18.5%), which I think is unlikely because I think Columbus, Chicago and Anaheim are in a tier of their own in mediocrity.

However, I could envision Montreal/Florida faltering to 4th-5th last, which still would give them 18% odds for #1 OA, only 0,5% less than for the team that finishes last.

Hopefully both Florida and Montréal can keep on losing. Yesterday was a nice day for the tank. Was worried about Habs getting that useless point yesterday.
Imagine we drafted 1st pick and another top 5 from Florida. One can dream...

Sure but if that dream scenario happens the boards will blow up against Habs favoritism from the league and there won't be room for PLD in Montreal at center.

Bedard is either going to a Duck or Hawk. You heard it here first
I say he won't be a Hawk or a Duck.

You heard it here first!

(my odds are better since ever if Anaheim/Chicago end up #32-31 OA, it gives them only 32% odds to get Bedard).
