Hughes all in on the tank. "It's part of the benefit of a young group to put them in a situation to come together and rise above losing an important piece."

But is it too late to get to the bottom 4 or even 5?

No, it's not too late. Habs already have the 5th worse plus-minus record, the second worst PK, and so on.... They won't get any better.

I think we have a chance to get into the bottom 5 still. We're significantly worse with Monahan gone, and Ottawa seems to have turned a corner.

Anyone thinking an A-level prospect was coming back was dreaming. A B-level prospect would have been nice, but any time you can add a 1st round pick for a player that also brought along a 1st round pick when you acquired him…that’s fantastic asset management. You have to be happy with this return. Not sure how you can be disappointed?

They could finish bottom 5. Wild, Ottawa and Columbus would have to pass us though and team like Calgary and Arizona stay in front of us

4th last is Columbus. I guess we're only 6 points up on them, but they're also a trainwreck and just lost Laine.

We're 10 points up on Anaheimfor 3rd last, with a game in hand.

i think realistically we are picking 5th or 6th, and with some luck maybe 1st or 2nd. The extra picks we keep getting will be used to attain the yearly "roster" player who fits the core.

I'm just happy Hugo signed the deal now, as we all know Money can be shut down for a season at any point with a fluke injury. Sure we could have gotten more if we waited, but that's a kin to playing wheel of fortune and keep spinning that wheel when you already know the answer.. greed never works.
take the 1st and be done with it.
