He's the same guy he's always been. He just had a great year. 23 HR 25 SB .342 OBP 3.0 WAR in 132 games. Just doesn't make sense to add him. The team is already full of OF with Nimmo/Conforto/McNeil or Davis whichever is in the OF. None as good as him defensively or as fast but all with great bats and younger.

Yah I wasn't comfortable at all giving up any one of the Nimmo's,Conforto's, McNeil's that were being bandied about as what the Pirates wanted from us in order for Marte to come here.

I like Marte as yes he had a pretty good year and I love him for fantasy but he's also 31. Who knows if he doesn't start breaking down or slowing down in a year or so.

Bottom line...thank the good lord Brodie passed and didn't do anything stupid and resisted the temptation of bringing in another big name. We dodged a bullet for sure...phewww!!

See the Mets finishing in 4th in that division.

Braves and Nats are still the class of the division. Going to be really tough for the Mets to break through.

3rd or 4th with Philly. Braves are stacked and Nats are still good.

Best case scenario, Mets pen is fixed this year compared to last year with their sweet amount of lumber and starting pitching, you don't think they could contend for WC?

They certainly could, but they’ll need to be consistent and need nearly everything to go right playing in a very competitive NL East. They’ll need to finish 2nd among Braves, Nats, and Phillies.

Not sure how the Nationals are still just as good. Lost their best hitter and they got no replacement. Hoping Castro, Cabrera and Kendrick could fill 2 of 3 infield spots as starters is not ideal.

Yeah, if their pen is better than they're good, but the Mets pen could easily be better.

I don't see Philly as that good either. Girardi isn't going to save that bullpen. Have to see how McCutchen is after major surgery. Lots more ifs. No clue who their 3rd baseman is.

Really it's the Braves and Mets for the top, with the Braves having the edge.

They could but I think they fall short.

There’s a path... but your assuming Philly and the Nats trend down while the Mets trend up. That’s certainly possible, but you can point out as many negatives with the Mets too.

The thing is, the projections show the same thing. This is from this article in the Athletic about how a trade for Arenado or Bryant could reshape the entire NL East, but how nobody really can afford him based on prospects or finances (Rosenthal: One big move could decide the NL East. Which team...)

Know what, though? Those teams probably should be fighting over both anyway, based upon one AL team’s latest internal projection for how the NL East will shake out.

Braves: 89.4 wins
Mets: 88.1
Nationals: 87.8
Phillies: 84.6
Marlins: 63.4

Of course projections are exactly that, but taking into account what the teams look like, the top 3 teams are the Braves, Mets, and Nats with the Phillies at 4. Was not impressed with the Phillies offseason. Wheeler is a nice pitcher (not to mention that the long ball is his biggest issue and he's pitching in that ballpark), but their biggest concern should be if Arrieta returns to form. They could also have an OF defense that is Bruce-McCutchen-Harper, which would be one of the worst OF defenses around. Kingery is slated to be their 3rd baseman, so him taking a role in CF is probably not likely.

I don't think either the Phillies or the Nationals boast the offense the Mets currently have, especially depth wise. deGrom and Syndergaard are better than the Nola and Wheeler, and as close to Scherzer and Strasburg as any other team could get. If their bullpens are a even, I just don't see how either two are better overall.

Soto is a stud, and Robles could take that next step, but their lineup is mediocre beyond that.

Suzuki, Kendrick, Cabrera, Castro, Turner, Eaton, Soto, Robles. Meh. Lot of old guys in there.

But the division is going to be war. There isn't much separating 1-4 (or rather prob 2-4).

Kind of crazy that Harper got 300m staying in the division, but is he even a top 3 position player in the NL East?

Soto, Acuna, Alonso? Definitely were all better last season. Arguable who would take moving fowrad. Youth/Potential vs years of data on Harper's side

I would like to give a shoutout to Boston management for trying to alienate their generational talent.

The odds to win the World series I saw last week looked like this in the top 7:

Yankees
Dodgers
Astros
Braves
Nationals
Phillies
Mets

Mets division is tough.
