The real Yankees coming back, 11 December 2019, colorized.

GERRIT COLE BAY BAY!

Please Diamondbacks. Save us from ourselves.

Looks like you got your wish.

And the beauty of this scenario is that Severino, or anyone else other than Cole, in theory doesn't have to be that bona fide #1 for a while. He can be a 1B.

Cole's potential/hopeful impact is not unlike David Cone in the mid-90s, Clemens in the late 90s, or even Mussina in the early 2000s and Sabathia in 2009 --- it's having a guy who can step in and be the ace. Not maybe the ace. Not likely the ace. But the ace.

That's the expectation.

Excellent point, eats innings and saves the pen as well.

Last year the Yankees got 3 starts from Severino and won 103 games. They could potentially get 60 games between Cole/Severino this year. That’s huge. Not to mention that’s a lot of innings that your bullpen won’t have to grind through which should help come playoff time.

Two excellent points. I don’t know if I see a 110 win team, but there’s potential if everything goes right.

I wonder if our new hitting coach could have fixed Sonny Gray.

It’s more than possible.

Mets Twitter has been the saltiest of the bunch.

Not their actual twitter, but their fans on twitter.

Nah, Houston fans are the worst. I had some dude wanting me to book a flight to go fight him. It was hilarious.

Easily.

This team has been thoughtfully built.

Cashman is underrated as an organization leader, IMO

Be careful, you’ll piss off the “Brian Cashman sucks” crowd.

I want nothing to do with him up in a big spot in the postseason. Would you?

I mean for Gardner it’s a one year deal for a reasonable amount with a club option. He’s a 4th OF/Hicks stand in. I’m not sure what you expect. Do I want him up in the biggest spot in the 7th game of a World Series? Probably not, but he’s a 4th OF. Who wants their 4th OF up in that spot? He stills takes pitches and plays plus defense. Not to be the “intangibles” guy but he does bring value there as well. Longest tenured Yankee and a tough player. You won’t get a comparable player for less money unless you want to give up big assets in a trade. If he wanted I think he’d have gotten 2-3 years guaranteed somewhere.

The Yankees definitely have a higher ceiling. If everything goes right they legitimately have four aces.

The Yankees also have more question marks.

I don’t know about 4, but 2 aces, Paxton who at his very best is close and Tanaka who at his very best is a great number 2-3 who is an absolute bulldog in the playoffs.

Looks like the Texas Rangers GM wanted Rendon and they've balked on Josh Donaldson's asking price.

This sets up a perfect market for a desperate team to trade for Andujar.

I don't think that he sucks but he's made some pretty big mistakes over the years.

Hader would be awesome. God damn that BP would be even more elite. I want Beltances back too.

Chad Green
Adam Ottavino
Tommy Kahnle
Zach Britton
Josh Hader
Dellin Beltances
Aroldis Chapman

Which mistakes are you pointing to? Because if you’re going to point out ones from years and years ago, you have to remember the Tampa Faction (Connors, Trost, Levine, etc.) basically controlled Cashman for a while. Cashman wanted Guerrero over Sheffield and the Tampa faction insisted to George that they signed Sheffield because he’s Doc Gooden’s nephew.

The latter part of the previous decade was when the leash was taken off of Cashman.

With that said, he’s made more brilliant moves than mistakes.

I don't follow baseball much lately, but why didn't the Yanks acquire Cole two years ago when he was available ? That offseason I thought he was a lock to become a Yankee....

Pirates wanted Gleyber Torres allegedly. (Yankee tax)

Traded Cole to the Astros for peanuts.
