I do not want to get bogged down in this in a hockey forum but there is a clear disconnect going on. It was quite surprising to see that many people thought that the American anthem getting booed in Montreal was hockey related at all. It's comfortable to be the aggressor and choose to be oblivious I guess. As Dryden, generally a blowhard, wrote in The Atlantic the four nationals final meant more in Canada than many outside of Canada realized. World leaders casually and publicly musing about annexing a neighbour, in particular one who has been a positive to them, is a jarring and unacceptable thing. And that is without getting into the mutually detrimental tariffs that are based on nothing but lunacy.
I hope that the Canadian team in 2026 can harness the bullshit as motivation. That the American players, at least the public ones and some of whom have families that are half comprised of Canadians, don't seem to get it is immaterial. Even during the 1972 Summit Series USSR was not talking about annexing Canada and taking direct and harmful actions against the country, but that is USA in 2025.
Now watch as we get a Finland - Czech snoozefest in the gold medal game.
