A deal headlining Frazier and Andujar would look real good right about now.

I would have even thrown Florial in there.

The Red Sox mortgaged the future for Sale and it worked out. We need to worry about the next 4-5 years and expect to rebuild after that. No looking at deals 5+ years down the line.

The one caveat between Cole back then and Sale at the time of the trade was Sale was a bit more of a proven commodity to Cole (133 ERA+ to 112 ERA+ as their time as starters in MLB). So I can understand the Yanks reticence to go overboard in their offer but in retrospect, they should have definitely included Andujar and Frazier if that was what it was going to take to get it done, as had been reported.

Fair point. But we already knew Andujar was going to be out for the season and Frazier has defensive problems (plus there was no place for him anyways with Hicks, Judge,Stanton and Gardner/Andujar).

We didn't bite on Sale or Verlander either. And its cost us WS titiles in all likelihoods while providing titles for the Astros and Sox.

Agree with your second paragraph but your first paragraph is a little off. At the time of the negotiations, Andujar wasn't hurt at all and was coming off a ROY caliber offensive season. Hell if he was hurt then the Pirates wouldn't have asked for him.

I think the Yanks were thinking about the future with Frazier (maybe they still are). Before this season played out, it was believed Gardner was gone after this year and if the whole team didn't get hurt, he would not have been an everyday player. I think the Yanks want to limit Stanton's days in the OF and an option was to switch off with him in Frazier in LF/DH. Also, just to note, by all accounts Frazier was an average OF in the minors and not a tire fire like he's been at times in the majors which I believe is more mental right now than anything.

Imagine if the Yankees didn't have Gardner or Maybin this year because they felt the dire need to "clear space" for Clint Frazier.

imagine if the rangers were expected to win a championship or you ever didn't speak in hyperbole

The Trop gives me lice.

...and here I thought it was because of your bad hygiene.

This ALCS is pretty much going to be a PITA no matter what.

As it should be. To be the man you have to beat the man (wooo?) Don't be fooled. From their perspective, neither of the Astros or Rays are "excited" that they have to go through the Yanks to get to the World Series. For the Yanks it's pick your poison. I'd rather it be the Rays if only because you get four games at Yankee Stadium. (Record against TB 8-2 at home. 4-5 on the road)

Man Verlander came out flat tonight. Middle middle with too many pitches.

Oh and just a random thing on Miguel Andujar. Offensively, if he had replicated his 2018 season he would have played more games than any of the other position players this year and would have been a close fourth (behind Judge, DJ and Urshela) in wRC+ /OPS+ this year. Just wanted to mention it because, even with his defensive shortcomings, he was so damn good in 2018.

pLus he was a fan favorite. I get why Cashman didn't trade him but it looks bad now. I guess they didn't know what they had in Gio so Gio might just be good luck and not Cashman knowing something other gms didn't.

Would be something if Tampa could win game 5 in Houston. I think they could pull it off.

I do feel like the constant switching of pitchers really had Houston hitters unbalanced. None of them looked comfortable.

Tampa has Glasnow and Snell available to work through that game. Snell had a shaky year. They really need Glasnow to give them 4-5 innings.

Should be a good battle.
